The Dragon reared back when Lucy dropped down from above while the demon yelped and fell backwards onto their behind. Using the surprise to her advantage Lucy didn't hesitate in her attack as she slashed her sword towards the dragon. A normal sword wouldn't have been able to hurt a dragon because of the scales that were like armor on them but the sword that Lucy wielded was a little different. It was a sword that was made of Lucy's pure magical ability. Every time that she crossed through the portals, she lost the ability to summon any of her spirits and instead gained the sword that she was using. Lucy had hated to start off with. Well no that was a lie, she still hated it. She hated not being able to summon her friends! And she wasn't the only one that didn't like it either, her spirits hated it just as much however there was nothing that they could do to change it so they just had to deal with it. Turning she kicked her foot out into the demon's stomach and sent him back to the ground and quickly used her blade to stop an attack from the dragon.
"You are the human that has been getting in the way of Lord Zeref's plans" The Demon grunted.
"Shut up and stay out of my way" Lucy snapped. Quickly moving, she twirled her blade away from the dragon's claws and then swung down, cutting off the dragon's left arm. Letting out a roar of both pain and anger the Dragon readied its magic and attack. Lucy jumped out of the way of the large earth spikes that burst out of the ground.
'A medium size earth dragon, that means that the core will be in the middle of the chest' Lucy thought. The reason that Lucy was targeting the dragon before the demon was because each dragon had a core that needed to be destroyed before they died while the demons had a book on them that she needed to destroy. Depending on the magic the dragon used and the size of them changed where their cores were located. It had been a trial and error to get that knowledge but she now knew where almost all the dragons cores were. Because of that it was easy to figure out what magic a dragon used therefore where their core was instead of finding where the demon was keeping their book on them.
"You have a lot of guts to depend that I shut up" The demon said before he had to quickly dodge a strike from Lucy as she swung out. He watched as Lucy then dodged an attack from the dragon without even looking.
'This is bad, we weren't told just how good at combat this human is' the demon thought. The dragon let out a roar of earth that Lucy used the help of a tree to flip over and landed on the dragon's back. Without flinching or losing her footing Lucy turned and thrust her blade straight in between the dragon's shoulder blades. The demon flinched and covered his ears as the dragon let out an ear burst shriek. It wasn't just any shriek but a shriek that soon disappeared just like the life of the dragon. With just one thrust of her sword Lucy had killed the dragon. Instead of the body of the dragon staying where it had been killed it began to glow yellow before disappearing into balls of light, leaving nothing behind but a single tooth.
"Now then, time for you" Lucy said as she turned to the demon. His hair stood on end and unlike when he normally came across an enemy he turned and ran the opposite way. He had never seen someone take down a dragon so easily. She acted as if it was just another day for her! He might incur Lord Zeref's rage but he would rather take the chance that Lord Zeref wouldn't kill him then stay around Lucy who was sure to kill him.
"Sorry, but I can't let you get away" Lucy's voice carried through the wind, making the demon break into a sweat. His hand unconsciously reached into his shirt and clenched the book that gave him life. Panting he pushed himself to run faster. Faster. He had to be faster! No matter how fast he ran it didn't matter. Lucy appeared in front of him making his eyes widen before he dug his feet into the ground to try and bring himself to a stop. Lucy showed no mercy as she thrust her sword straight, threw the book hidden in his shirt and threw his body at the same time.
"Sorry but I can't afford to show any mercy to you. I can't afford to let you report back to Zeref either" Lucy apologized. The demon let out one last breath before his body crumbled to dust leaving nothing but a book with a stab mark straight through it. Lucy reached down and picked up the book, she had already picked up the tooth that the dragon had dropped. It wasn't like she didn't have plenty of them, every dragon that she killed left a tooth and every demon left their book behind. That was the only proof that she had that this was even happening so she always made sure to keep hold of them.
"Now then, let's see if I can manage to make any difference this time" Lucy sighed. Killing the dragons and demons was all well and good but it was going to fix anything. It's not going to make it so that her friends can come back and live their lives. For that to happen Lucy needed to destroy the Eclipse gate and defeat Zeref. Both tasks weren't really something that one person could do by themselves but she had to. Lucy wasn't going to give up until everything was back to normal, no matter the cost. Turning she started to head towards where Crocus was once located and where the Eclipse gate was located. She knew that along the way that she would run into more dragons and demons but she would fight until she couldn't anymore.
