(This part is just background info, you do not have to read this part but I would recommend to read it all to fully understand everything).
Once the Crystal King or the Overlord was defeated the ninja all took a break from their ninja duties and set off to obtain their elemental powers again. All the ninja went their separate ways and all bid farewell, Nya and Jay decided to spend some quality time together on an island to enjoy themselves, except Jay was lost in thought most of the time. Nya came up with the idea to have a walk to take Jay's mind off of things... but Jay ended up getting lost along the way. While Jay was walking around the forest he bumped into an old friend/enemy, Unagami. Unagami told Jay that he had come to the island to study the landscape and other things on the island because he wanted to make something. Jay and Unagami were talking to each other and Unagami realised that something was off about Jay, when Unagami asked what was wrong Jay stoped walking and looked down, he decided to tell Unagami what was bothering him but like how Jay helped Unagami solve his problems with his father he wanted to help him. Unagami comforted Jay and when the sun was about to set they ran into Nya. They both parted ways and said their goodbyes, after having that chat with Unagami Jay felt something spark, once Nya and Jay got back to their cabin he tried to use his lightning and all of his elemental powers were back! Nya and Jay were estatic, after two more days they would be returning to Ninjago city to meet up with the other ninja. Once Jay and Nya got back to their monastery everyone else was already there, they all had found their powers again and came back home. Nya had also regained most of her powers and was to come back with most of her strength. Jay was happy he was back but because there was no one trying to destroy or rule over Ninjago he didn't have to do anything, so he decided to learn more about his parents, especially his birth mother.
Cole came running to Jay's room and poked his face through his slightly open door with a confident face "Jay do you want to see me beat Zane! This game is going to be fun to watch~!" But Jay was glued to the screen fulled with words, he didn't even look up to Cole and responded "No thanks, I'm kinda busy right now" and kept reading and writing things down. Cole realised that something was off because Jay would usually race Cole to steal his controller, Cole thought that if Jay didn't want to watch it must be something important to him as slowly closed the door and left with a confused and worried face.
"Hey Cole where's Jay?" Kai asked, while sitting on with coach holding Cole's controller. Cole stared at Kai but he responded that "Jay said he didn't want to watch, he seemed very invested in something..." Nya remembered the trouble that Jay had back on the island and thought it could be the same thing. Lloyd remembered something and told the ninja "I saw Jay last night while I was getting a drink of water, it reminded me of Kai when he was looking for his parents" Kai turned his head to Lloyd who was cross the room from Cole and said "What could be more important than games and food to Jay?" Nya glared at Kai from behind, scaring the others, making Kai confused. Nya then created a small ball of water and threw it at Kai's head, Kai was surprised from this sudden attack and shouted, "AHH! What the heck Nya!?" Kai frantically tried to dry and fix his hair, Zane was still waiting for the others to finish talking but he decided to start the game while Kai was distracted to get the upper hand. 'Game start!' The T.V began to play the game music and when Kai heard it he immediately stoped and shouted at Zane "Hey what are you doing? Don't start without me!" Zane chuckled and the others did too, Zane replied "You were taking too long and got distracted, that's on you!" Kai made and irritated sound while the others laughed at him.
