[An Excerpt from Dr. V. Ratio's "The Eccentricities of the Stoneheart" (an unpublished report)]
As the Intelligentsia Guild requires external funding, I have had the displeasure of working with several Stonehearts in negotiations. Though none have proven to be more stubborn and annoying than Aventurine [of Stratagems]. However, despite our grievances, there happens to be mutual respect when it comes to talent and/or knowledge. For having never gone to school, the gambler is not half bad when it comes to traditional educational subjects. However, this is not where he truly excels. It does not take a genius to know that every move he makes is strategically chosen, and he is constantly thinking on several levels to know exactly what consequences will come of his actions, the extent of which remains unknown, even to me.
However, the Stoneheart possesses one major fault, and that is his tendency to take unnecessary risks, which, more often than not, dangle his life on the line. He seems to have the necessary comprehension to understand that this is unhealthy, but he lacks the self preservation necessary to adequately avoid it.
In the case of Aventurine, he also has a consistency to work alone, avoiding missions with a great deal of other IPC personnel. Even during the Penacony mission, Aventurine only allowed two guards to stand watch. He'd often insist on them taking extended breaks, and these guards could most commonly be spotted in various locations around the hotel- not guarding his room.
I will not deny that Aventurine has been incredibly difficult to work with in the past, seemingly intentionally obtuse when it comes to being offered help. Regardless, I have been assigned to "watch" him in exchange for funding- though, more often then not, it feels like he's the one watching me.
