A/N: I've been obbsessed with this song soooo, here we goooo! Also, I'm going with the Greek names instead of the names we actually call the planets. I'll let you know when to play the song too
Selene wanted to hear a bedtime story from Gaea (Gaia) again. Ares, Aphrodite, and Hermes were joining Selene and Gaea for a sleep over that night. Mars and Mercury wanted to hear a story too, and soon enough Gaea gave in.
Gaea waited for everyone to get settled before she started. All of the planets love listening to Gaea's stories, especially the ones with her earthlings. The others waited patiently for Gaea to start speaking.
[Start the song, and pause once you get to the beginning of the lyrics, or wait until you hear them to continue]
Gaea took a deep breath and started her story, a sad look in her eyes was clearly noticed by the others. Selene and Aphrodite leaned forward, eager to hear a story. Ares and Hermes shrugged, trying to act like they didn't care; even though they were anxious to hear a story from Gaea too.
"My little army boys are coming home from B.F.P.O," She started, "I've a bunch of purple flowers to decorate mammy's hero."
"Mourning in the aerodrome, the weather warmer, they're colder," Gaea continued, a gentle smile on her face, "Four men in uniform, to carry home my little soldiers" Mercury's previously happy smile faded into a solemn frown.
Gaea kept telling the story, "What could he do, Toivo should have been a rockstar. But he didn't have the money for a guitar," Ares frowned as well, "what could she do, Marcia should have been a politician. But she never had a proper education,"
"What could he do, Emil should have been a father. But he never even made it to his twenties," Gaea felt a tear fall as she told the story, "What a waste, army dreamers... ooh, what a waste of army dreamers..."
"Tears o'er a tin box," Gaea pushed on, "Oh, Jesus Christ, he wasn't to know,"
"Like a chicken with a fox, Adolf couldn't win the war with ego," Ares joined, "Give the kid the pick of pips and give her all your stripes and ribbons,"
Gaea nodded, picking up where Ares left off, "Now Isla's sitting in her hole, she might as well have buttons and bows,"
Hermes joined, "What could he do, Toivo should have been a rockstar. But he didn't have the money for a guitar,"
Aphrodite as joined well, "what could she do, Marcia should have been a politician. But she never had a proper education,"
"What could he do, Emil should have been a father. But he never even made it to his twenties," Gaea smiled, "What a waste, army dreamers... oh, what a waste of army dreamers..."
"Ooh, what a waste of them army dreamers," Apollo joined, "Army dreamers, army dreamers oooh..." The others looked at Apollo confused, as he wasn't one to listen to Gaea's stories often... somehow, he knows this one. Apollo wasn't even invited to this sleepover either.
Everyone stayed silent when the story was finished, watching Gaea collect herself. She sighed and smiled, everyone smiled back, except Aphrodite, she just looked... sad.
"Gaea, who are Toivo, Marcia, Emil, Adolf, and Isla?" Selene asked her older sister, curious as to who those people are. Gaea looked at Selene and Selene noticed the glimmer of grief in her older sister's eyes.
"They were all countries who were a part of a terrible war. Toivo and Marcia were invaded by Adolf. Emil was Adolf's older brother, in a way, they were very close until Adolf killed Emil. Isla is an island off the northern coast of Quincy," Gaea explained, all the names confused everyone else, but Selene nodded and smiled.
"You should all go to bed now, or at least take a nap," Apollo suggested, starting to leave, "Also, Gaea, I love that story," Then he left, leaving the five planets alone.
All but Gaea and Hermes got into bed and tried to sleep. Hermes was too hyper to do anything, asking Gaea questions about her earthlings.
"Why do your landmasses have names?" Hermes asked, "What's a war? When was this story? Where are those countries now? Who else was involved?"
Gaea chuckled, overwhelmed by all the questions, "They have names because they didn't like not having one. War is a conflict between earthlings. This story was 78 Earth years from now, and a lot of those countries either recovered or collapsed. Over 30 countries were involved," She answered as best as she could.
"Fascinating..." Hermes mumbled, "Earthlings kill their own kind? Why would they do that?"
Gaea sighed, Hermes has always been the curious one, "Yes, earthlings kill their own kind. I don't know why they do it, but each earthling is different... a lot of earthlings don't like difference, maybe that's why,"
Hermes nodded, thinking, "Hm... I'm going to bed, but I'll have more questions tomorrow!" He said triumphantly as he skipped to his sleeping bag, which wasn't very far away at all.
Gaea nodded and stood up, "I'll be outside in the backyard," she said as she left the living room and went outside, in her backyard. Slowly making her way to a chair, Gaea looked up at the stars in the night sky.
"How are you doing my little earthlings?" she mumbled, sitting down on a white rocking chair, one that she got from Zeus as a gift. She got no reply from her earthlings, which wasn't a surprise. Getting replies from her earthlings never happened, but she liked to pretend they could hear her.
Gaea rocked in her chair, her gaze never leaving the distant suns that her earthlings called stars. Their bright lights shining and their presence glittering the midnight sky. She always saw those distant suns as a beacon of hope, so close but so far.
Apollo once told her that he could feel the other suns dying. He said it was like feeling like he couldn't breathe, even though his breathing was normal. Like you yourself were dying, except you know you aren't... you just feel the smallest fraction of the pain.
He even told Gaea that most suns that we can all see are already dead... and he wonders if he's the last star left to die. Gaea was never one for deep thinking, thinking only made getting through the day harder.
Gaea never wanted to have life; it wasn't something she asked for. She simply wanted to see what she could do, she messed around, and now she has life... and it's slowly killing her. If she doesn't die first, the humans will die within 2-3 billion years, along with all other life forms on her surface.
She still cherishes the life she created, she just wished they weren't as intelligent as they are. if only they weren't so intelligent, maybe she would be healthier... but then again, it might have been worse. She'll never know, because the earthlings are too stubborn to die. They're desperate to keep living.
Searching the universe for more living spaces... and for what? To keep their species alive? Everything dies... even us planets die... they can't seem to wrap their naive, stubborn, and annoying minds around it... they're just too stubborn for their own good.
