Chapter 1

It's been awhile since i've been here, everything has moved so fast, it feels good to slow down. The cool grass felt good on my palms, the molten lava glowed and rumbled slowly as it flowed down the rocks and formation, from here there's a good view of the river styx, a beautiful blue stream that travels all through the valley, the lava caused it to shimmer in the light, charon would float by every now and then, giving a big sweet grin to me, signing a hello, everytime. Ever since I was a kid they always kept an eye on me out here. I guess parents will always parent.

"It's been so long, I missed you!" a cheery voice spoke up, i turned my head to the dark skinned girl, she had long braided purple hair, her eyes were a soft silver and clothes layered in shades of purple. Saint, my best friend since? fucking diapers, "how was the search..?"

She sat next to me, and hugged my arm, laying her head on my shoulder and smiling up at me with those gorgeous eyes and pearly smile, her legs elegantly pulled to her, like the princess she is. I felt a small smile form on my lips as she spoke, she always had such joy in her voice when she spoke to me, like i always mattered, like she was always so excited to see me. It felt good, especially now.

I hummed quietly in response and shook my head, "Not good, amounted to nothing."

"I'm sorry Aubrey, I know finding him is important to you... but I am happy you're back." She smiled, "just in time to enroll into the sorcerer academy with me!"

I blinked and turned my head to him, "Eh? You're going there? Why not, ya know, the reaper academy."

She looked away, "I don't want to, I never really wanted to, I want to perfect my shadow magic."

"And how does your daddy feel bout this?" I questioned, glancing over at her, "All things considered"

"They're supportive.." As always, Jasper would support anything she did, a doting dad through and through.

"Mm, well, if you like it baby, I love it." I leaned back on my hands again and watched the lava, she adjusted and laid her head comfortably on my shoulder, "but why would i enroll, i did my jail time."

"Oh haha," she rolled her eyes, "because I'm there and I won't have anyone else there with me, it's a new environment.."

"I'm not even a sorcerer sugar-" I raised a brow

"True! But you have plant magic, you'll fit right in! And you can stand to practice your little vine tricks more."

"..." I narrowed my eyes at her, "implying?"

"Nothing sweetface, nothing at all~" she hummed, "anyway! You don't even have to try, just be there cuz im there."

"Mhmm. I'll run it by dad, don't hold your breath, he never really approved of Hecate's academy, or her.."

"I'll take it!" She grinned ear to ear.

"How have you been though? You look great, love the new hair." I messed with a few of the braids, perfect as always, not a single strand out of place, beads placed perfectly and strategically, he hasn't changed a bit. She instinctively leaned into my touch like always, her skin was so warm and soft.

"Hah, thanks, wanted to try something new, not much has changed since you left, i took a gap year after high school, went on vacation with my dad before work called them away again,tried community college for a year, didn't like it, and now i'm going to the sorcerer academy"

"Mm, what about the ranch? How's that goin? Are you going to do school and ranch stuff?" I dropped my hand and crossed my legs, sitting up and leaning against my hand, keeping my eyes on her.

"Mhmm, like always, I've met a lot of cool reapers over the years, you were close to being replaced." she chuckled, I snorted out my nose quietly and shook my head.
