It's so cold here.And dark.
My brother says that's when the ghosts and monsters come out.
When I asked Mommy, she said not to listen to him and that he was just messing with me.
I am not so sure anymore.
The shackle rattles and protests as I pull my legs to my chest. The freezing floor sends frosty blasts through my whole body, but I don't have the energy to stand up.
My toes are numb. The bruises on my back burn. The red marks left by the shackles have worsened to purple.
I think that's bad.
My teeth chatter and I bite my lip several times, trying to stop it.
"Mommy..." I whisper in the pitch-black room.
Mommy misses me whenever I go on trips with Grandpa and Grandma. She said she doesn't like being away from me. She must be crying right now.
I don't like it when Mommy cries, but I want her to come for me.
This place is evil. This place hurts.
My stomach growls like an animal.
If I were home, Daddy would make me my favourite-red velvet cake. He would read to me and call me his princess.
I miss my Daddy.
And my brothers.
A fat tear slides down my cheek. Then another. And another. Before I know it, I am sobbing while holding onto myself.
Daddy tells me not to cry. He said he doesn't like it when I'm sad.
But I can't help it.
I screw my eyes shut to try and stop the tears.
"You're weak."
My spine stiffens at the voice.
Daddy?
With snail movements, I place a hand on the floor and open my eyes.
Daddy stands in front of me, his back facing me. He's wearing his black suit. His dark hair is short at the sides but long at the top.
The view of his back alone makes him seem far like I can't go to him anymore.
"D-daddy?"
I cry as he walks towards the door-like he isn't seeing me.
My ears ring as I stand up. "D-Daddy! D-don't leave me. H-help me."
"Why should I? You abandoned me. Abandoned your family."
"W-what?"
"Why did you forget us, princess?"
"No," I sob. "I didn't"
"Liar," he growls.
I flinch at his tone.
Suddenly, he morphs into a shadow.
My pulse quickens.
No, no... My lips tremble.
It isn't real.
Not real.
I need to go back to Daddy. He'll hug me and tell me everything is ok. He'll fight them monsters.
Something stabs my finger. Ow.
The first drop of blood strikes the ground. Followed by many more.
Before I know it, my hands are covered in blood and a pool of red surrounds me.
My breathing turns shallow when I look up again.
Bleak eyes stare back at me.
It's the ghost.
I shriek.
