Victor Valerian settled on the plush leather chair pouring century-old wine in the glass in his private too isolated cabin miles away from the Mexican civilization on the secluded island.

The night was perfect for such an occasion. Not that he was celebrating anything. He simply enjoyed Mother Nature's thunder bellowing from the sky with violent downpours mixed with the scent of muddy earth. The proper dose of the heat emerging from the fireplace warming up the little cabin on the blasted chilling rainy night made him crave the good ol' days.

The days when there wasn't much ass-grade technology invented and he could admire the days in the comfort of his home when his butler would go home. A soft body by his side or two or sometimes the room full of them. He was never satisfied even with the room full of them. He still enjoyed it. Several bodies pleasuring him and he returned the favour.
Vampires were such pleasurable creatures. But the world had moved at a fast pace and he was here stuck in past.
Not that he had any serious relationships. Yes, he had lovers.

Humans, all of them.
Gone with the time.
But sometimes even in the room full of lust and pleasure he felt a distant ache. The one he couldn't pinpoint.
He sighed.

Technology didn't disappoint him.
No.
He was happy people could connect across the seven seas not but within a minute. Still, he ached for the peace. Being ancient made him crave the much more peaceful days. Away from the city buzz, away from the maddening crowds and blasted music booming in the night breeze. So here he was, in his lair. His private island. Alone and with good ol' wine.

He savoured a sip silently savouring the rich aromatic scent wafting from the red liquor smiling at the bet he won with his dearest friend, Ian. Although his name was Cassian, Victor preferred Ian. The one who wins gets a century-old wine with a vacation. And voila!
He had won.
He couldn't think of any other place to enjoy the dark liquor. He needed a break. A damn vacation. And what place would be more peaceful than the isolated island? Far away from demons and humans.

After a hectic half year of tracking and stalking the scent of vampires who were batshit crazy to cause havoc in the city, their crew had finally captured and annihilated them. Thanks to the technology they had created those bastards were easier to catch.

So, when Ian had bet on the beautiful woman from the bar whether she would give her phone number to Ian or not, Victor had said the opposite. She wouldn't. And being the womanizer Ian was he had gone and charmed her. Only to scowl and return. Victor had laughed so hard at the rejection because this was the first time in centuries he had seen Ian getting rejected.

Victor was sure Ian would approach the woman again. Because Ian couldn't stop looking at her. When he inquired Ian brushed him but he knew his mate better.

When Victor told him he won the bet Ian's scowl had turned deeper. But deep inside Ian knew his mate needed a vacation.

So, here he was. On the secluded island away from humanity.

No one would come here to disturb him for the next few days or months. He had come prepared so that he wouldn't suffer a trip to the mainland. His boat is hidden in the cave beneath the rocks. He had an extra stock of blood and frozen food. Of course, just because he was a vampire doesn't mean he solely relied on blood. No.
He can go on without blood for days. However, he needed food. Also, it was a reminder of his days when he enjoyed delicacies.

When he was human.
When his family was alive.
When he lived and laughed with his parents and sisters.

But a plague had perished their village along with his family. Somehow he had survived and Ian had found him.

Ian's words were simple. "I will take your suffering away."
At that time, he wished for the suffering to end but little did he know he would be an immortal, an undead, a creature of night.

Victor didn't regret his choice. In the beginning, he did display penitence but was grateful for Ian when he learned to use his true powers for something better. So, he and Ian had found several others and turned two or three who wished to be free from the torment.

Now they had a crew full of vampires from across the world alongside wolves, witches, dragons, demons, fae and other creatures who were on their side and chose to be good to create a better world.
Then, some created bloodshed, who feasted on humans and left them drained. To annihilate them Victor and his mates were always willing.

Victor and his mates feasted on humans but never took life. It was a sin. And a stake at heart wouldn't make their soul clean. Nothing would. They took what was needed. A few drops. Nothing more. In return, the promise of pleasure was apparent.

They were hired by Kings and Queens. Their beauty often surpassed the Kings and Queens were desperate to spread their legs for them.
Who could blame them?
The creatures of the night were sinfully gorgeous and dangerous.

He sipped wine sighing in delight at the intoxicating taste of the wine. Nothing could beat a century-old wine. He had his fill of blood last night from the blood bag from his freezer. He had heated it and relished in the taste of AB+. So, a few days from now he would survive without blood.

Swirling the red liquid in the glass he focused on his surroundings. His vampire powers flew into the cabin to heighten his sense of hearing. Heavy rain kissing the ground caught his ears for miles and miles. The ocean was roaring on a thunderous night, waves crashing on the rocky shores. Somewhere deep in a cave, a Panther was enjoying his fresh feast of deer. Lucky him. Victor silently raised the glass in a toast. Owls were quiet tonight maybe because of the rain.
Sensing there was no danger lurking in the dark forest Victor took another sip of his wine relaxing in the chair and briefly closed his eyes.
