Prachi gazed at the blank piece of paper in front of her as she sat at her desk. She had been trying for days to write a song, but she was at a loss. She became overcome with frustration and an ongoing feeling of failure.
"This is garbage," she repeated to herself before tossing another botched attempt into the trash can.
Leaning over, Ranbir put a reassuring hand on her shoulder after observing her from across the room. He replied, "Are, apne aap par itna kathor mat bano. Writer's block hamamen se sabse ache logo ke saath hota hai(Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. Writer's block happens to the best of us.)"
Prachi reclined on her chair with a sigh. She admitted, "Lekin baat sirf itna hi nahi hai. Mujhe lagta hai ki main kabhi bhi aapke jaisa sundar sangeet nahi bana paunga. Main utna acha nahi hoon(But it's not just that. I think I'll never be able to compose music as beautiful as yours. I just am not good enough.)"
Her comments hurt Ranbir's heart. Though he was mindful of Prachi's unique skill, he also understood the agony of self-doubt and noticed that she only needed a little support to recognize it.
"Prachi, please mujhe dekhe(look at me)," he said, lifting her chin up to his level. "Aap bahut adhik taiyaar hain. Yah aapke paas maujood uphaar ko kholne ka intezar kar raha hai. Aapako bas khud par bharosa rakhna hoga(You are more than ready. It's waiting for you to open up the gift that you have. You simply have to have confidence in yourself.)"
Prachi's eyes welled with tears at his words. "Aakhir kaise(But how?)" she whispered.
Ranbir smiled softly, reaching for his guitar. "Chalo main tumhe dikhaati hoon(Let me show you)," he said, strumming a few chords before launching into the melody of "Chahun Main Ya Na."
Prachi listened, spellbound by the beauty of his voice as he sang. However, she hesitated once he was done, her fears resurfacing.
"Main nahi kar sakta(I can't)," she said, shaking her head. "Main kabhi bhi aapki tarah nahi ga paunga(I'll never be able to sing like you.)"
With a finger placed beneath her chin, Ranbir made her look up into his eyes. He whispered softly, "Tumhe meri tarah gaane ki zaroorat nahi hai. Tumhe bas apne jaisa gaana hai(You don't have to sing like me. You just have to sing like you.)"
