Arden

It was Friday afternoon, and Emma and I were in my apartment, my bed already covered in a sea of outfits. I was nervously pacing back and forth, occasionally picking up a dress or a blouse only to toss it back down in frustration. Emma, ever the supportive friend, was seated on the edge of my bed, sifting through my wardrobe with an air of determination.

"I have to look perfect tonight," I said, running a hand through my hair. "I'm not just meeting River's friends. I'm meeting Cole's wife, Jenny, too. What if they don't like me? What if they think I'm too... much?"

Emma looked up, a smile playing on her lips. "Arden, calm down. You're going to be fine. They're going to love you. Just be yourself."

I sighed, collapsing onto the bed next to her. "I know, I know. But it's nerve-wracking. I haven't felt this anxious about a date in a long time. I really want to make a good impression."

Emma handed me a sleek black dress with a gentle shimmer. "Try this one. It's elegant, yet understated. Perfect for a nice dinner but not too over-the-top."

I took the dress from her, holding it up against myself in the mirror. "Yeah, this might work. But what if it's too simple? Or what if I look like I'm trying too hard?"

Emma rolled her eyes playfully. "You're overthinking it, Arden. You look amazing in anything. But if you want to add a bit more flair, how about these?" She held up a pair of statement earrings that glittered in the light.

I took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay, let's try it."

I slipped into the dress and put on the earrings. Emma adjusted the fabric, ensuring it fit perfectly, and then stepped back to appraise me.

"Gorgeous," she declared. "Absolutely stunning. River's going to have a hard time keeping his eyes off you."

I laughed, feeling a bit more confident. "Thanks, Emma. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"That's what friends are for," she said with a wink. "Now, let's finish up your makeup and hair. We don't want to keep River waiting."

As Emma worked her magic, I felt my nerves slowly melting away. Her steady hands and calming presence were exactly what I needed to get through this. By the time she was done, I felt like I could conquer anything.

"Ready?" she asked, giving me one final once-over.

"Ready," I said, taking a deep breath. "Let's do this."

I grabbed my clutch, and we headed out. Emma gave me a reassuring hug at the door. "You're going to be amazing, Arden. Just be yourself, and everything will be fine."

I nodded, giving her a grateful smile. "Thanks, Emma. I'll text you later and let you know how it goes."

As I stepped out of my apartment, the early evening air was cool and refreshing. I felt a mix of excitement and nerves bubbling inside me.

Right on cue, River arrived, looking dashing in a crisp, tailored suit. His eyes lit up when he saw me, and a warm smile spread across his face.

"You look absolutely breathtaking," he said, pulling me in for a kiss. "Don't worry. They're going to love you. I promise."

His words and the gentle reassurance in his eyes made me feel a bit more at ease. "Thank you, River. I'm just... I want to make a good impression."

"You will," he said confidently, offering his arm. "Now, let's go make some memories."

We headed to the restaurant, a cozy yet elegant place downtown that Kade and Cole have chosen for the evening. As we walked in, the warm glow of the lights and the soft hum of conversation created a welcoming atmosphere, but my nerves began to creep back in.
