Arden

We managed to secure the house, and it still feels surreal. Almost being outbid was nerve-wracking, but River used his lawyering skills to save the day. Watching him in action was impressive, and I couldn't help but feel proud and relieved when we finally signed the papers.

The moving process took some time, but it was worth every moment. I wanted everything to be perfect, from the color of the walls to the arrangement of the furniture. I spent countless hours deciding on decor, ensuring our new home felt both cozy and stylish.

River's mom was ecstatic. She adored me, which made the whole process even more special. I remember her dramatic exclamations of joy when we told her we had secured the house.

As I walk through the beautifully decorated living room, I can't help but smile. The space reflects both our personalities perfectly. The light streaming through the large windows highlights the soft, neutral tones I chose for the walls. River's collection of books is neatly arranged on the shelves, and our shared love for art is evident in the carefully selected pieces hanging on the walls.

River comes up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. "You've done an amazing job with the place," he says, kissing my neck softly.

I lean back into him, feeling content. "It's our home, River. I wanted it to be perfect for us."

"It is perfect," he assures me. "I'm so proud of you."

Just then, my phone buzzes with a text from Sarah, eagerly asking when she can come over to see the final touches. I laugh and show River the message.

"She's more excited than we are," I say.

"Well, she does love you," River replies with a grin. "And honestly, I can't blame her."

Preparations for our housewarming party were in full swing. River's family, Kade, Cole, Jenny, and my parents are all coming. While I'm excited to show everyone our new home, my nerves are frazzled at the thought of my parents meeting River for the first time. The conversations with them have been tense, especially when I begged them not to reveal my secret to River.

"Please, Mom, Dad," I had pleaded over the phone. "I promise I'll tell him, but I need to do it in my own time."

My mother had sighed, her voice laced with concern. "Arden, you know how important it is to be honest with him. But fine, we'll respect your wishes for now."

My father had been quieter, but his agreement was a relief. "We won't say anything, Arden. Just make sure you tell him soon."

I hung up feeling a mixture of relief and anxiety. Today was supposed to be about celebration, not secrets.

River notices my apprehension as we set up the final decorations. He wraps his arms around me, providing the comfort I desperately need. "Everything okay?" he asks, his eyes searching mine.

I force a smile. "Just nervous about my parents. It's their first time meeting you, and I want everything to go perfectly."

He kisses my forehead. "It will be perfect. Your parents will love the house, and I'm sure they'll like me too."

"I know," I reply, trying to calm my racing heart. "Let's hope so."

As the doorbell rings, signaling the arrival of our first guests, my nerves spike again. River's family arrives first, their excitement infectious. Sarah immediately engulfs me in a warm hug.

"Oh, Arden, everything looks wonderful!" she exclaims, her eyes twinkling with delight.

"Thank you, Sarah," I say, genuinely touched by her enthusiasm.
