there was a street.

it was broad daylight but fog clouded the area. mavis squinted into the fog, taking a few hesitant steps. she almost felt the concrete underneath her bare feet, but she knew it was in her imagination, her dream.

mavis took a step forward, then another. she kept walking as if her own dream was pulling her to something. or someone.

there was laughter, loud joyous laughter. her feet quickened, the realization flooding her.

there was one. two. three. three people sitting in the middle of the road. and they looked exactly as she remembered.

their backs were to her but she recognized elise's long hair playing with the wind. bentley's favorite shirt crinkled around his waist and brooks' loud laughter rang through the empty street, sending chills down her spine. they were all barefoot, facing each other rather than her.

'what are you doing in the road?' mavis heard herself speak but she didn't feel her mouth move as if her dream was acting for itself. it was as if she was an outsider, watching her own body move by itself.

the laughter stopped and replacing it was a loud silence. it was sickening almost as if sucking in every piece of life she had in her.

'hello?' she heard herself speak once more. her lips moved on its own, her mind unable to control it. 'it's dangerous, you know. sitting in the road could cause you to get hurt. aren't you scared?'
