Foreword:
An attempt in my more learned years at rewriting this abomination, but a pig in pearls is still a pig in pearls ig. You have been warned. And I still haven't watched beyond season 1. (Unless Danny Motta's reaction videos count.)
Some more specific changes may be untwinkification of Atsushi a little cause I checked their character descriptions and Akutagawa is literally like only an inch taller than Atsushi and I was writing this shit up with some 90s BL manga proportions in mind. The way they act is EXTREMELY DIFFERENT (i think) to how I originally wrote this. Also, the layout of the apartment has changed alongside many plot-related things having changed too, and I have heard the people and I almost made Atsushi nipple-less to spite y'all but then I thought about whether I was that desperate to make this worse than it already is, so I will be chilling on the description. ALSO, I will not be having this man coughing mid-makeout-session because I doubt even the most gifted of authors couldn't make hacking up your lungs halfway through a kiss sexy or somehow move past that smoothly, thank you.
But yeah, buckle in its a Long one. I didn't know if you would have to worry about ads less if I put everything in one chapter so i did that, consider each solid line of hyphens a chapter break.
WARNINGS: fluff, explicit sexual content, mentions of canonical child abuse (brief and not detailed), strong language, canon-divergence (??), mischaracterisation (most likely idk)

Atsushi had now gone on multiple operations with his unexpected partner on Dazai's orders or the agency's. The beginning of their relationship or perhaps lack thereof was as expected: they hated each other, and they weren't shy about expressing it. Many occasions came to Atsushi's mind, namely the time Akutagawa had him follow a lead he had already disproved in some attempt to make him seem better in front of Dazai. Or better yet, when he refused to cooperate with the weretiger simply because he was in a shitty mood, because any further explanation was unceremoniously withheld.
This was of course not to say that he didn't hinder the man himself, watching him angrily rummage through a cargo container looking for some hidden breifcase which he had already found and handed over to Kunikida was very entertaining. Each failure seemed to make his non-existent eyebrows furrow further and gradually his pout turned to a scowl, and he may have lost it when Atsushi revealed he had wasted three hours of his life he would never get back.
Their most recent operations had become more smooth-running to everyone's surprise. They quarrelled less even if they refused to admit it and frankly they had begun to work in an amiable manner, any jabs mere words lacking any real intention to hurt. Except now hung something in the air.
Were either of them willing to acknowledge let alone name the something? No. Of course not, that would be absurd.
So they carried on and ignored whatever had started to come between them because there was nothing there, and suddenly it had been three months since they started feeling things and the leaves were beginning to change with the seasons as summer came to an end.

Atsushi had his back to his partner, wiping blood from his face, "We're done here Dazai."
They had just detained a man, albeit with some force, whom they believed had local gang affiliations. The organisation was deduced to be heavily involved with the abnormally rising rates of substance abuse in the Kanagawa prefecture alongside its borders with the prefectures of Kōhoku and Tsuzuki. Akutagawa and Atsushi had been tasked with the more menial tasks on this case, as the superiors seemed to want to keep things neatly under wraps.
