I was just a boy with a dream in my heart,
But they tried to tear me apart,
Told me to dye my hair, change my style,
But through it all, I kept my smile.
Simon said, "You gotta change who you are,"
But I stayed true, even though it was hard,
Braces on my teeth, a diet to keep,
Through the pain, I found my strength to leap.
Major knee surgery, they said, "You gotta perform,"
Even when my body was feeling worn,
Tried to mold me, shape me, into their view,
But I held on tight, to what I knew was true.
Simon said, "You gotta change who you are,"
But I stayed true, even though it was hard,
Braces on my teeth, a diet to keep,
Through the pain, I found my strength to leap.
They couldn't see the fire in my soul,
Tried to control me, but I broke the mold,
Now I stand tall, with my own voice,
In the end, I made my own choice.
Simon said, "You gotta change who you are,"
But I stayed true, even though it was hard,
Braces on my teeth, a diet to keep,
Through the pain, I found my strength to leap.
Now I look back, and I see how far I've come,
Through the storm, I found my sun,
No more chains, I'm free to be me,
In my heart, I found my key.
