Crickets lit up the night, and the moon shone from afar. Inside a cozy little house, a family of two kids and a mother lives.
It was near twelve Ante Meridiem, no signs of civilization awake. One is an exception, with dim lights. A child is cuddling with her cat. Making it purr in delight, rubbing its furry body over the palm of the owner's hand.
Where was the mother you asked about? She was asleep, at least that is what the oldest of the two thought. Instead of enjoying the night together, she was sitting on the front steps.
Eyes focused on the sky, illuminated by stars and gusts. She is okay with it, it made her calm.
The sky was an incredible view! no clouds covering the moon, allowing it to shine along with other glowing celestial bodies.
Even so, the youngest decided to join. Taking a seat beside her, the cat in her hand.
Silence. She let out a sigh, resting on her back.
"Hey . . Thea" the oldest called, making the said name hum in return. Silence once again took over the atmosphere, until she sighed.
"Do you like the stars, too?" Eyes glued to the sky.
I kept silent, waiting for her to say something. Yet she didn't, which made me confused. I looked away from the stars, seeing her head hanging low with butter snuggling close.
I waited again, but after almost half an hour, she was quiet. Sure, I'm not as close to my family, but I am still worried.
"Thea, are-?"
"I heard a noise" Lifting her head up. She quickly took my hand, dragging us both inside with the cat.
She quickly, yet as quietly as possible, closed the front door. I raised a brow, but couldn't make a word when a clunking noise was heard.
Then silence. I stared at her, worries plastered on her face, and so did I. We stood still, waiting for anything to happen.
Who on earth is planning on a robbery at twelve a.m? and how-I thought, trying to calm myself down.
Yeah, it didn't work, obviously. Another noise made us snap out from our thoughts.
Footsteps. We both quickly hid below the sofa, with Thea closing her mouth with both hands folded.
It was quiet again, for a moment. I kept my breath low, glancing at Thea. She was more scared than I am, and I understand why.
Another footsteps, this time quieter.
At first, she thought it was their mother. Alicia was about to get out before a hand stopped her.
Thea's eyes are shaking. I raised a brow once again. Following the direction of her gaze. To see, none other than a stranger.
I quietly got inside again, and we both held our breath. The figure got out of the dark, he or she was wearing a black hoodie, face covered.
"Sis . . " My head turned to her, she's shaking slightly. I know what she's thinking about, but no. We can't think that way.
