"Captain!" A female voice thundered into the room.
"Captain, wake up!" She struck the sleeping man in the nose.
"Ow!" Kisuke jumped up. His bed was western styled. A mattress on a bed frame. It was rather high up. Hyori found it annoying because she really wanted to kick the man, but she was too short compared to the bed.
"Why do you like this big weird bed away?"
"It's comfortable, and I like the elevation." Kisuke laughed awkwardly.
"Whatever it's stupid, you and Shinji always bring weird stuff back from the world of the living."
"I take it Shinji is playing his new records then?"
"He is, and he's driving the lieutenant nuts."
"Aizen?" Kisuke asked.
"Who else?" She raised a brow.
"Is he okay?"
"I guess he just looks annoyed, and lets Shinji walk all over him. If you made me do all the paperwork, I'd shove it up your-"
"I know, I know." Kisuke laughed.
"Don't cut me off."
"You don't need to curse at me, I know exactly what you'd do besides as captain it's my responsibility to do my own work."
"Oh..." Hyori blushed softly. Maybe I'm too harsh. She thought.
"The freaks are almost done with the lab."
"Oh let's go see!" Kisuke jumped up. His hair was a mess. Hyori covered her nose.
"You should clean up first. You smell like garbage!"
"Oh... thanks." Kisuke blushed, and ran to the washroom. Hyori was surprised. Usually he doesn't care. She shrugged. Maybe he's interested in someone. Yeah right haha! He might be interested in someone, but I doubt she's interested in him. Hyori gasped suddenly. It's probably Captain Shihoin! They always hang out, and I've heard they grew up together. It was then Hyori realized she didn't know much about her captain.
~
Once Kisuke was ready he stepped over to the lab with Hyori.
"Oooh!" He sang with a grin.
"It looks great!"
"Thank you." Akon nodded. He glanced at Hyori before pulling his eyelid down, and sticking his tongue out at her.
"Why you little!" Hyori began to chase the boy around.
"Please don't run in here." Kisuke sighed. Mayrui stepped into the room carrying a box.
"You again!" He grumbled. Hyori stopped, and Akon hid behind Mayuri.
"Lieutenant, how many times must I ask you to behave in the laboratory! This is no place for children." He shook his head.
"He's younger than me!" Hyori pointed at Akon.
"Everyone calm down." Kisuke clapped his hands. Hyori stopped, and glanced back at him.
"What's this?" Kisuke asked, looking at the box Mayuri held.
"A few more finishing touches."
"Very nice." Kisuke nodded.
"I think we'll be official soon."
"Official?" Hyori asked.
"Yes. The research, and development institute will be open, and we can learn things about the worlds around us."
"Such as?" Hyori sighed.
"We'll learn more about hollows, and their abilities, and how best to handle them. We'll learn about where they come from."
"Heco Mundo?"
"Yes!" Kisuke beamed.
"Why would you wanna learn about that?" She crossed her arms.
"To better ourselves." Kisuke shrugged.
"Whatever." Hyori stomped out of the lab.
~
Later that afternoon Kisuke found Hyori with Shinji, and a few others he knew in the tavern. His cheeks flushed when he spotted Aizen. How am I supposed to look at him after last night? Kisuke awkwardly stepped over when he heard Shinji calling him. He sat down across from Aizen.
"Are you done building your nerd cave?" Hyori asked.
"Yes." Kisuke nodded.
"Finally." She sighed with relief.
"Hyori told me all about it." Shinji grinned.
"I got you a record player from the world of the living for it."
"A record player?" This brought a smile to Kisuke's face.
"Then you can listen to jazz while you do whatever it is you nerds do."
"Thank you." Kisuke laughed. Aizen smiled softly. Kisuke's smile slowly faded. Hyori said he was annoyed earlier. She said it was probably because of Shinji's music, but what if it was because of last night?
"You okay?" Shinji asked.
"Me?"
"Yeah, you're pale, but pink at the same time. You also seem really spaced out."
"I'm just tired." Kisuke laughed softly.
"That's weird." Hyori crossed her arms.
"How's that weird?" Shinji asked her.
"Because all he does is sleep!"
"Hyori! You can't say that about your captain!" Shinji shook his head.
"I'll say whatever I want about him!" She growled.
"Like you do about me?"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"You have no respect." He shrugged. Hyori grabbed the blond's long hair, and pulled on it.
"Ow! Ow! Ow!" Shinji reached up to his head.
"I've got more respect in one finger than you do in your entire body!"
"Oh yeah? If you did then you'd know Kisuke's been working hard, so of course he's tired, you idiot!" Shinji tried to pull his hair from her fist.
"Shut up!"
"Captain, don't encourage her." Aizen shook his head.
"Huh! You want some too four eyes!" Hyori glared at the brunette. Kisuke dropped his hands down hard onto the table as he stood up.
"Huh?" Hyori, and Shinji both stopped, and looked up at him.
"Captain?" Hyori let go of Shinji's hair.
"You okay?" Shinji asked.
"Y-yeah. I forgot to finish some paperwork." Kisuke lied before running out of the building.
"What's up with him?" Shinji asked.
"He knows if he doesn't finish his paperwork I'll shove it up his ass." Hyori sighed.
"I'm so glad you're not my lieutenant." Shinji mumbled
"What was that?" Hyori yelled. She looked at Aizen.
"I'm glad I'm not your lieutenant either. You run this guy all over the seireitei."
"That's because Sosuke does his job."
"You mean your job." Hyori growled, and the two began another childish fight.
~
Kisuke was back in the research lab. He was pacing around. Why did I jump up like that? I thought Hyori was going to bully Aizen. I didn't like how she spoke to him. I can't be that protective.
I barely know him. I barely know him, yet my dick was in his mouth last night. Kisuke reached up, and grabbed his hair. He tugged at it a little. Why am I like this? He sighed, and stepped outside.
It was dark out. He wasn't sure how long he'd been in the lab. There were no windows. He wondered exactly how late it was. Kisuke sighed, and decided to lock up the lab, and return to his quarters. He stepped in, and took off his clogs, and haori. It was the middle of the night. He stretched, and yawned when there was a soft knock at his door. He glanced at it. Who's here this late?
"Hello?"
"Captain Urahara?" It was Aizen Sosuke.
"C-come in!" Kisuke stuttered. The door opened, and the brunette stepped in.
"What are you doing here?" Kisuke asked.
"I came to apologize for my captain's behavior at lunch." He bowed his head.
"Oh. Don't worry about it." Kisuke laughed softly.
"I should be apologizing for my lieutenant's behavior."
"Thank you." Aizen smiled softly. Kisuke blushed.
"Can I get you anything? I have tea."
"Thank you." Aizen nodded. Kisuke grinned, and poured them each a glass of tea. He sat down at the kotatsu. Aizen sat across from him, and took a sip of his tea. Kisuke watched him excitedly.
"Thank you." Aizen hummed.
"It's good."
"Thank you." Kisuke nodded. He took a sip of his tea.
"I am truly sorry about this afternoon." Aizen said again.
"Really it's okay." Kisuke laughed. Aizen set his cup down. Kisuke's smile faded. What's wrong? He watched Aizen sit up on his knees. He leaned over the table.
"I suppose I should make it up to you." He spoke softly as he closed the space between them. Kisuke's cheeks flushed brightly as Aizen's lips brushed against his neck. His heart rate increased.
"You... You don't have to."
"I want to." Aizen started kissing the captain's neck. Kisuke gasped softly. What's happening right now? He was stunned. Aizen pulled away, and dipped below the kotatsu. Kisuke jumped when Aizen began fishing through his pants. Once the lieutenant found what he was looking for he grabbed it. Kisuke shuddered, and closed his eyes.
"You... You really don't have too." He shivered when he felt Aizen's mouth closing around him. His length lay flat against the brunette's tongue. Kisuke's head dropped back. He groaned softly.
~
Kisuke opened his eyes. He was laying on the floor. I fell asleep. He sat up. The kotatsu looked as it had the night before with two glasses of tea. The lieutenant was nowhere to be seen. He must have left after I fell asleep. That was so rude of me. I don't even remember when I fell asleep, only that it felt so good.
"I have to apologize." He jumped up, and went to freshen up. Once he was ready for the day he opened the door. Hyori was waiting for him outside.
"Oh." She was just about to barge in, and kick him if he were still asleep.
"Hyori, good morning."
"Wow you're up early."
"Yeah I've got work to do." He smiled. Hyori nodded, and her eyes landed upon a mark on the captain's neck.
"What's that?" She pointed.
"What?"
"Your neck! You-you have a hickey!"
"N-no I don't!" Kisuke lifted his hands defensively, and shook them from side to side.
"Yes you do!" Hyori began to laugh. Kisuke dropped his arms, and groaned.
"Hyoriiii!"
"I can't believe it!" She continued to laugh.
"Please, it's not funny."
"It's hilarious! Wait til I tell Shinji!"
"No! Don't tell Shinji! Don't tell anyone!" He begged.
"Why shouldn't I?"
"I'll do your paperwork for the week!"
"Alright." Hyori giggled.
"Thank you" Kisuke sighed with relief.
"I guess that's why you've been so tired lately huh?" She mused.
"It's none of your business." He blushed, and began walking away.
"Whatever." Hyori crossed her arms. They walked to the lab in silence. Once they arrived Akon, and Mayuri were already starting on their own work.
"What are we even doing?" Hyori asked.
"Well today I was hoping we could study this." Kisuke stepped into the back room, and returned with something large hidden under a cloth. He lifted the cloth, and tossed it aside. In his hand was a large glass cylinder shaped container. Inside was the smallest hollow Hyori had ever seen.
"Is that a hallow?" She looked surprised, yet intrigued.
"Indeed it is." Kisuke nodded.
"But it's so small."
"Not all hallows are big." Akon replied.
"I don't ask you!" Hyori grumbled.
"I know they come in different sizes, and shapes, but this one is like a lizard or a snake." She stepped closer, and watched the creature lunge at the glass. She gasped, and stepped back.
"Don't worry. This glass won't break. I made it myself."
"How?"
"It contains fine shards of Sekkiseki. He's not getting out of a natural barrier like that."
"How did you find Sekkiseki to use for this? Isn't it really rare besides the walls of the seireitei?"
"I'm surprised you know anything about rocks." Akon chimed in.
"I learned it at the academy!" Hyori snapped.
"You guys all think you're so smart, and everyone else is just stupid!"
"Now, no one thinks that." Kisuke shook his head.
"I think you're very intelligent, Hyori, that's why I trust you to help us in the lab."
"Oh." She blushed softly.
"This hallow is small, so I'm curious about what it can do." Kisuke elected not to speak of where he found the rare minerals for the container.
"Where did you find it?"
"Another squad. One of the units who were on a mission in the Rukon district said one of their own began to attack his comrades, and they were forced to kill him. This hallow was found nearby, and they managed to detain it."
"You think this hallow had something to do with the soul reaper who went berserk?"
"I suspect so." Kisuke nodded.
"So we're going to do some experiments, and see what it does. It's small, so I'm sure it's some kind of possession. It likely uses its enemies to attack each other. It's too small to defend itself any other way." He paused.
"No, not possession, it's parasitic." He grinned. Mayuri stepped over beside the captain. He was equally interested now.
"That is a nasty one you've found, Urahara." He beamed.
"I only want to know how it attaches to a host, and how best to remove it without killing the host. We don't need to weaponize it." Kisuke sighed.
"That's not at all what I am suggesting!" Mayuri was offended.
"Then what? I can see it in your face, you want to harness this ability for evil purposes." Kisuke chuckled.
"How dare you!" Mayuri snapped.
"I simply thought an ability like this may be useful to soul reapers."
"How so?"
"If another faction like the Quincies were to invade-" he was stopped when Kisuke held up his hand.
"That race had been whipped out completely."
"They are few in number, yes, but still exist."
"We're not having this conversation again. We are not making weapons, and we are not slaughtering quincies. I don't care how badly you want to study them." Kisuke turned his attention back to the hallow. The room was quiet, and awkward. Hyori had only ever seen Kisuke make that face once before in the maggots nest when they were attacked.
What the heck is a Quincy? She thought. She wanted to ask, but the atmosphere was tense enough. She'd wait until it was just her, and the captain. For now she simply did as she was told. Handing him tools, and watching. The little hallow was parasitic. Kisuke used a willing subject to test the theory. A squad member with lower spirit energy. Someone who wouldn't be a threat even if the hallow attached itself to them.
The soul reaper was rather young, and interested in the captain's work. He sat alone in another room with the container, and opened it when the captain said to. The little hollow quickly lunged at the soul reaper, and attached itself to the soul. The squad member was no longer in control.
The group watched from a window that looked into the room, from the rest of the lab. Hyori watched in shock. How do we get that thing off of him? She looked at her captain. Does he know what he's doing?
"I'm going in now." Kisuke stepped over to the door. It opened, and he stepped in. The door closed behind him immediately.
"What's he doing?" Hyori watched nervously.
"Be quiet." Mayuri replied. They watched as Kisuke simply let out more of his own spirit energy. The squad member collapsed, and the hallow jumped off the body, and tried to scurry away only to lie flat on its belly unable to move. Kisuke quickly scooped it up, and set it back into the container. His reiatsu lowered. Hyori wasn't sure what the walls of the lab were made from but even from where she stood his spirit energy shocked her.
I'm sweating. She whipped her forehead. Just from that. He's strong, and I've always treated him like he's weak. The door swung open. Hyori gasped.
"Call squad four, he needs to be taken to the infirmary." Kisuke referred to the unconscious squad member. Kisuke wanted to see if there were any lasting effects as well. Hyori nodded, and did as she was told. Akon took the container back to the storage room while Mayuri, and Kisuke documented their findings.
~
His vision was blurry, as he opened his eyes. The young soul reaper felt confused. There were two blurry figures nearby. Both had blond hair, and wore soul reaper uniforms, one was taller with more white clothing then black. He gasped, and sat up.
"Captain!"
"Don't panic." Kisuke hummed.
"Everything's fine."
"What happened? Did I mess up?"
"Nope." Hyori crossed her arms over her chest.
"Oh good." The squad member smiled.
"You did great. I appreciate your help, and thank you for it." Kisuke stepped closer, and sat down beside the soul reaper.
"Still, I'm sorry for the danger I put you in." Kisuke bowed his head.
"Don't worry Captain, I was happy to help." He smiled. Kisuke nodded.
"Get some rest, you're doing great." Kisuke said before he stood up.
"Thank you captain!" The soul reaper beamed as Kisuke, and Hyori stepped out of the room.
"What an idiot." She scoffed.
"That's not very nice."
"It's true! You used him for that experiment because you knew he was weak."
"Hyori?" Kisuke frowned.
"There's no way he stood a chance against that hallow, and the test wouldn't have worked if you used a stronger soul reaper."
"No it wouldn't have." Kisuke sighed.
"That hallow couldn't withstand my spirit energy, or any of the captains. It would likely have struggled against a lieutenant's, so yes I needed to use someone with weaker reiatsu for that experiment."
"So you admit that you used him like a piece of lab equipment?"
"No! I asked multiple squad members that I felt fit the bill to help. He was the only one willing to participate in the experiment which I explained to him
Beforehand. You're making it sound like I didn't even tell him what I was going to do then forced him."
"I'm just making sure." Hyori shrugged.
"I get the sense you don't trust me." Kisuke laughed softly. Hyori blushed. Maybe I don't. She thought to herself. I don't know anything about you.
"Hey, I have a question."
"Yes?"
"What's a Quincy?"
"What?" Kisuke stopped.
"Mayuri talked about things called quincies attacking us, and you seemed upset about it."
"Oh." Kisuke sighed.
"They don't exist anymore."
"Mayuri didn't seem to think so." She shook her head.
"That's a long history lesson Hyori." Kisuke sighed again.
"You want me to trust you then tell me stuff." She glared at the man.
"Alright, come by later I'll give you a lesson in soul reaper history."
"I already went to school."
"They didn't teach you this."
"How do you know?"
"Trust me." Kisuke smirked.
~
Later that evening Hyori did go to visit Kisuke. She really wanted to know what he was hiding. She was incredibly suspicious of the man. She knocked on the door to his quarters.
"Hyori, come in." Kisuke hummed as he opened the door. Hyori stepped inside. They sat at the Kotatsu, and drank tea together.
"So what is a Quincy?" She asked.
"It's a darker part of our history." He sighed. He was hoping she would have forgotten about it by now.
"Darker?"
"Yes. A Quincy is a human with spiritual powers. They can sense, and see hallows, and whole spirits. From what I know they can't perform a konso on a human soul like we can, and when they kill a hallow they destroy it completely."
"Destroy the soul?" Hyori was rather surprised by all of this. They're just humans, and they can fight hallows? How have I never heard of them before?
"Yes. Because of that everything was thrown out of balance, and the world as we know it was near collapse."
"What happened to them? You said they're extinct. I'm guessing they couldn't handle hallows after all. They're just humans right?" She smirked.
"Not exactly." Kisuke shook his head.
"I understand that we soul reapers tried to reason with them, and asked them not to interfere, but they refused..." there was a pause.
"Then what happened?"
"They were exterminated." He looked down at his tea. There was another pause. Hyori's smile faded.
"Exterminated..?" The wheels in her mind were turning. Kisuke looked up at her.
"By soul reapers."
"Soul reapers... Killing humans..?"
"Yes." Kisuke replied.
"That's... That's complete bull shit!" She shouted, and stood up.
"You're full of it!"
"Huh?" Kisuke blinked at her. He was confused. Full of what?
"I don't believe you! I asked you a question, and you told me some scary story like I'm a kid!"
"You think I'm lying?"
"Of course I do! There is no way a human can fight, or even see a hallow, and there's no way soul reapers kill humans!"
"Hyori." Kisuke's face shifted. Hyori's eyes widened. It was the same expression he made when Mayuri brought it up earlier. The same face when they were in the maggots nest. He was serious.
"No." Hyori shook her head.
"You're not just trying to scare me... Soul reapers.. killed those people..."
"I'm sorry." Kisuke's face softened.
"I shouldn't have told you about it."
"When did this happen?"
"Way before I became a soul reaper. A hundred years, or so."
"Does everyone know?"
"No, not anymore." Kisuke shook his head.
"There are few who've even heard the word Quincy."
"Why?"
"It was a bad thing. Something to be ashamed of."
"So we deny it, and hide it?"
"I can't say." Kisuke shrugged.
"I suppose it's an attempt to save the soul reaper's reputation."
"Our reputation..."
"How do you feel about being a soul reaper now? How do you feel about other soul reapers?" He asked.
"I feel..." Hyori trailed off.
"I don't feel good." She shrugged.
"Exactly, that's why it was swept under the rug."
"Do you agree with that?" Hyori asked.
"No." Kisuke shook his head.
"Okay." Hyori nodded. There was another pause, only this one was more awkward. The deafening silence was broken by a knock at the door. Hyori jumped.
"Yes?" Kisuke called out.
"Captain Urahara." A familiar voice answered.
"Sosuke?" Hyori raised a brow.
"What's he doing here this late?"
"He's just..." Kisuke had to think fast.
"Returning something I let Captain Hirako borrow!"
"Shinji's borrowing stuff from you now?"
"Just some paperwork, I let him reference it."
"No surprise, I doubt he has an original thought in his head." Hyori sighed.
"Well, I'm going to bed now. Hopefully I don't have nightmares from your scary stories." She crossed her arms. Kisuke sighed.
"Goodnight Captain."
"Goodnight Hyori." Kisuke smiled softly, as she opened the door.
"Lieutenant." Aizen nodded to her as she stepped out.
"Sorry Shinji's making you run his errands so late." She sighed.
"It's nothing to worry about." Aizen smiled sweetly.
"I'm not." She said as she walked off. Aizen stepped into Kisuke's room, and closed the door.
"Your lieutenant is as friendly as ever."
"Sorry about that." Kisuke laughed awkwardly.
"She was just curious about some of the things we learned in the lab today."
"I'd love to hear about it." Aizen smiled. Kisuke blushed. I knew it! He's intelligent.
"Have a seat, I'd love to tell you about what we've been doing. I knew you were smart, and not just from those glasses." Kisuke giggled.
"Thank you captain." Aizen watched Kisuke run into his kitchenette for another glass of tea. He came back into the room, and sat down with the tea. Kisuke handed Aizen a glass.
"Thank you." The brunette nodded.
"No problem." Kisuke hummed. He soon began to ramble about the lab, and his passions, and curiosities. Aizen listened, and asked questions. After a while Kisuke became tired. He yawned softly.
"You should go to sleep." Aizen chuckled.
"Y-yeah." Kisuke laughed.
"I could help you like last night."
"O-oh!" Kisuke's face turned bright pink.
"N-no that's not necessary. I-I've been meaning to ask, what are we doing?" Kisuke asked. Aizen tilted his head to the side. He's like a confused puppy. Kisuke thought.
"I don't want you thinking you have to do all of this over that one report. I shouldn't have even done that in the first place." He shook his head. Aizen laughed. Kisuke blinked at him.
"I know what I'm doing, captain. Yes you completed that assignment for me, and I returned the favor. The second time you hadn't done anything to warrant it. I did it because I wanted to."
"Why?" Kisuke asked. That was the part he couldn't figure out.
"I enjoy it." Aizen shrugged.
"I enjoy your company."
"I enjoy yours too!"
"Thank you." Aizen blushed. Kisuke grinned. Cute. Kisuke recalled what Aizen had said to him that first night. I'm a captain now. I should take what I want. I told myself I would, and he's expecting me to. Kisuke sat up, and reached across the kotatsu. He placed his hand on the back of Aizen's head, and pulled him into a kiss. Aizen closed his eyes, and reciprocated. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Kisuke froze. He pulled away.
"Who is it?" He called out.
"It's Shinji." A male voice called out. Shit! Kisuke jumped up, and singled Aizen to hide in the bedroom. Aizen nodded, and stepped out of the room. Kisuke dusted himself off, and opened the door.
"Captain Hirako, what a surprise." He hummed.
"Being a captain you can just call me Shinji." The other captain sighed.
"Oh right, sorry." Kisuke laughed awkwardly. He's probably looking for Aizen. Kisuke's heart was pounding in his chest.
"Hyori told me I borrowed something from you, and my lieutenant returned it."
"Oh yeah, thanks, I appreciate it."
"What even was it?" Shinji asked.
"Just... An album." Kisuke thought quickly.
"You already have a record player?" Shinji raised a brow.
"Yeah, I got it recently from the world of the living."
"I don't even remember. Well the one I got you is for your lab anyway." Shinji sighed.
"I'll have to borrow the album again sometime, and actually listen to it."
"It's not that great, so don't worry if you forgot about it." Kisuke chuckled.
"You've been busy lately too. Working hard can make you forget things like that."
"Yeah I have been working hard." Shinji agreed.
"About time someone noticed. Anyway, Souske came by too, to let me know he dropped it off, but I don't trust him much, so I decided to ask you."
"What?" Kisuke blinked at him.
"He said he dropped off that thing I borrowed, so I wasn't sure what it was. Hyori might have recruited him to prank me. He showed up at my door a few minutes after Hyori left. She didn't tell me what it was either, and I didn't remember borrowing anything from you, so I was just suspicious." He shrugged.
"Right." Kisuke nodded. Aizen was in two places at once? Shinji noted the confusion on Kisuke's face.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Hyori was a little upset when she left, I hope she didn't take it out on you."
"She seemed fine."
"That's good to hear." Kisuke smiled softly.
"Don't worry about her. She's warming up to you." He smiled back.
"Goodnight." Shinji said as he turned, and walked away.
"Goodnight." Kisuke bowed his head before closing the door. That was stressful. He stepped into the bedroom.
"Aizen?" His eyes widened, and his face lit up with blush. The brunette was lying on his chest on the bed. Propped up on his elbows, chin resting in his hands. His knees bent, and kicked back, and forth slowly. Ankles crossed over each other. He was completely nude.
"Captain." Aizen hummed. Kisuke took of his haori, and closed the door.
