Trigger warning: this chapter contains struggles with body image, panic attacks, different types of grief and dangerous activities.Angel stared at himself in the mirror, holding onto the counter. He looked ashamed. Husker hugged him from behind, kissing his shoulder.
Angel smiled a little, glancing at his fiancé. “You're so pretty. Even if you don't see it.” Husker said softly.
“Hey, Husker?” Cherri asked, leaning on the door frame. Husker glanced up, holding Nuggs. “Wanna go on a drive?” She asked, holding up her keys.
Husker set Nuggs down, shrugging. “Sure.” “Put on a jacket, it's chilly.” She said, walking away. She had on a ripped leather jacket.
Husker sighed, grabbing his own, running his fingertips over the embroidery. He slid it on, closing the door behind him as he made his way downstairs.
Cherri was waiting in the lobby, talking to Charlie quietly. They both glanced up at Husker, Cherri smiling. Charlie gasped, “you guys are matchinggggg!” she squealed, bouncing up and down. Cherri giggled. “Calm down, bitch. We do this all the time, I'm surprised you just noticed it-”
Charlie pouted, “I wanna match-” “noted.” Cherri hummed, twirling her keys on her finger. “Ready?” She asked, Husker nodding. He shoved his hands in his pockets, following her.
“Where are you guys going?” Vaggie asked, tilting her head. “Ride. Need to get out for a little bit, thought it'd be nice.” “ be safe. Don't crash, please. I don't exactly trust you driving-”
Husker smiled a little, “she has a point.” “Oh fuck off you old hag, you're just too old to understand driving!” “I died in the same year you did!”
“Don't be gone too late, have fun. Please don't crash into a pole or a tree or something.” “I'll try not to!” Cherri hollered as she quickly rushed Husker out the door.
Angel leaned against the car door, the wind making his hair messy. Cherri occasionally glanced at him, trying to keep her focus on the road.
Husker sat in the back, looking out the window. The tension in the car was too much for any of them.
Cherri glanced back at Husker. “You know you can sit up front- if you want to.” “No.” Husker mumbled, fixing his jacket. “That's not my spot.”
“Okay.” Cherri sighed, starting the car. She rolled the windows down, turning the music up. They stayed silent for a while, letting the music fill the empty space.
“Angie, are you okay?” “yeah. I'm fine, cher. I'm fine.” Angel mumbled, hugging himself. Husker glanced up, sighing softly.
Angel adjusted his jacket, before turning the music up, trying to avoid more questions. Husker leaned forward, offering his hand. Angel shook his head, looking up at the sky.
Cherri adjusted the rear view mirror, glancing at Husker. “Wanna go through the sunroof?” She asked. Husker shrugged.
“You look really young in the jacket. It looks good on you.” She smiled. Husker pulled his hands out of his pockets, glancing up at the open sunroof. “Thanks.”
“We haven't done this in a while. I know it's awkward, and it's hard to do because he's always with us. But it's still somewhat fun. We don't have to do them if you don't want to. You know you can tell me no anytime.”
Husker nodded, lifting himself up so he sat on top of the car, his legs dangling through the sunroof. Cherri smiled, speeding up. She turned the music up, the city quiet.
