Six Feet Underground and a Mage

Chapter 7/ Way Home

"Thanks for having us again Lance!", Gusion yelled as Alucard went inside the stable to get Chain, so they could go home. "Any time Gusion, tell us when you're back so we can talk about your mission.", the noble said as he waved the mage off and went back into the mansion.

When Alucard came back with a saddled Chain, he asked his roommate if he wanted to lead again, "Nah, I'm tired. It's already pretty late, can you sit in front?", the brunette asked his friend, while suppressing a yawn. The blonde chuckled and went up into the saddle offering his hand to the other to take. "Come on sleepyhead, you can sleep on my shoulder if you want to.", the blonde said as he smiled at his friend. Gusion nodded with a tired smile and took the outstretched hand to get pulled up into the saddle.

As the three left the property of Lancelot in a slow trot, Gusion fought his eyes as they started to close. Alucard noticed the grip of Gusion getting less tightened, before the man said, "Hey Alu, I'm gonna take a nap alright? Wake me, when we're home?", as he laid his head on his friend's shoulder without waiting for a reply and was asleep in the next few minutes. Alucard moved his eyes to his friend and started chuckling a bit as he saw him already fast asleep.

The Demon Hunter noticed that his friend started to slip from time to time and didn't want him to fall. He stopped his black stallion and turned around to his roommate, trying to wake him up. "Hey Gus, could you wake up for a second?", the blonde asked. "I'm-" a yawn came out "-up. are we home yet?", Gusion asked his friend with an even more tiered voice. "We're a good half an hour ride away still. I woke you up because you keep slipping and i don't want you to fall down. If you want you can sit in the front and lean against me to sleep.", Alucard explained to his friend. "If thats fine with you sure, I would like to continue sleeping", the mage replied. The blonde nodded, told his roommate to back off a bit and then got down from Chain's back, so Gusion could scoot forward. As Gusion sat in the front Alucard got back on behind him and tested if he could still hold the reins but also support his friend should he fall asleep. "Alright we're good to go, you can go back to sleep.", the blonde stated as they continued home. "Thanks for looking out for me Alu, ...you're a great friend and an even better roommate", the mage mumbled as he fell back asleep, leaning back into Alucard. Said roommate started blushing and smiling at the last sentence, glad that his friend fell asleep before he could see it. "Thanks Gusion, you're also a great friend.", the blonde said to the other. "If not even a bit more to me", he added in a wishper, just heard by the wind, the horse and himself.

When the sun sets, Chain reached the house of the roommates and stopped walking. "Gusion, wake up, we're home.", Alucard said as he shook his friend's shoulder. "Just give me five more minutes, it's comfortable and warm.", the mage murmured as he laid relaxed against Alucard's chest. "Alright sleepyhead, 5 more minutes and then we will go inside.", Alucard mused to Gusion, who smiled at the reply.

5 minutes turned into 10 minutes before the blonde nudged his friend again. An annoyed exhale was heard, "Alright I'm up. Stop poking me dipshit!", he continued to complain as he sat up and looked at Alucard with an annoyed glare. Both looked at each other for a few seconds then Gusion turned away from the ocean blue eyes and started playing with Chains white mane. The Demon Hunter got down and offered his hand to the Mage, who ignored it and jumped down. Gusion stumbled as he hit the ground, the only reason he didn't fall was because someone held his shirt. "Careful there, you just woke up, you know," the blonde mused as he let go of his shirt. "Thanks Alu", the brunette didn't look at his roommate and walked to the front door, hoping he couldn't see the small blush on his face. "Huh? Did I do something wrong?", Alucard asked himself out loud as he looked at his horse.

The blonde brought his horse into the stable and locked the pit for the night after feeding him. When he walked into the house, he saw that Gusion was already in the kitchen, heating the meat soup from last night. The table was already set for both of them. "You didn't leave me anything to do.", Alucard made his presence known to his roommate, which still jumped at the reply. "You scared me dipshit! And yes I did, as 'thank you' for letting me sleep on the way back home. Was more tired than I expected.", Gusion replied with his back still to the blonde. "Also food's ready in like 5 minutes, don't keep me waiting again." Gusion added as he stirred the soup. "Alright mom", Alucard mumbled and went upstairs to change into something more comfortable.

Dinner was a quiet affair, the only thing you could hear were the sounds of metal hitting ceramic. It wasn't a pleasant silence, so Alucard looked up at Gusion to see if he could make out what he is thinking about. "You're thinking about the mission?", the silence was broken by the blonde's question. "I'm not!", the mage denied immediately, not looking into the eyes of his roommate. "By the look on your face and what you just said, I'm guessing it is about the mission.", Alucard voiced. "I... I'm just nervous. It's the first big mission I had in the last 2 months. I'm worried that im rusty.", the mage said in a low voice, scared that someone else will here his thoughts. "You and being rusty? Don't joke Gusion. You're training daily with the knights and your doing your own training too. Which, might I add, shouldn't be as often as you do them. If someone is rusty out of the both of us, it would be me.", the blonde replied in a playful way. The brunette smiled thankfully at his friend and continued eating. As Alucard noticed that the tensed shoulders dropped of his roommate, he relaxed too and started smiling, while eating his soup.
