It had been a month since Amelia endured unspeakable horrors at the hands of Ronan's men. Day after day, she suffered through a vicious cycle of physical abuse, starvation, and repeated assaults that left her battered and broken. Ronan's sinister plan for her was unfolding, as his men continued to exploit her twice a week, leaving her in agony and despair.

Amidst the darkness of her cell, Amelia found herself transferred to a new one with three other children. Greta, after one of her brutal medical sessions, had deemed her ready for the next phase of Ronan's sinister plan. Amelia was different from the others; she was Ronan's special project, someone he aimed to break completely before molding into his instrument of destruction.

Observing the other children, Amelia learned they were abducted at older ages, unlike her infancy kidnapping. A fleeting pang of envy for their past lives flickered within her, quickly extinguished as she recognized their shared suffering and unbroken spirit. Thin, bruised, and scared they may be, but their eyes held a flicker of hope and solidarity. Amelia wondered if they had been friends before their captivity.

Once Greta left, Amelia retreated to a corner of the cell, avoiding eye contact with the others. Among them were two boys and one girl. One of the boys caught her gaze and offered a gentle smile. He had sandy blond hair, appearing darker in the dim light, and his brown eyes were barely discernible amidst the shadows. His clothes were tattered, revealing scars that told of similar torment.

She seems so scared... but also like she wants to trust us, Vinnie the blonde boy thought as he studied Amelia cautiously. He noticed her curly, long, tangled brown hair, the three small moles on the side of her left eye, and the one beneath her lip. Her brown, foxy eyes held a mixture of fear and curiosity, and her full lips twitched into a hesitant smile, revealing vulnerability that tugged at Vinnie's heart.

In a moment of spontaneity, Vinnie leaned in slightly and whispered softly, "You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. They shine even in this darkness."

Amelia starteld at the sound of his voice. Vinnie noticed her reaction and quickly reassured her, "I'm sorry, we won't hurt you. I'm Vincent, but friends call me Vinnie. You can call me that too. These are my friends, Scott and Lyra." He gestured to each of them in turn.

She listened dumbfounded,at his unexpected words, her heart skipping a beat. She had never heard such kindness in her young life, let alone from someone she had just met. Her eyes widened, unsure how to respond to such sincerity in the midst of their bleak surroundings.

"Hi," the girl greeted with a small smile. She had short black hair, brown doe eyes, and freckles that were faint but noticeable. The other boy, Scott, stood protectively by her side, glaring cautiously at Amelia.

As Vinnie continued to speak, Amelia listened tentatively. Her thoughts raced, scared yet surprisingly trusting these strangers. They seemed different, somehow safer than anyone she had encountered before.

They seem... genuine, Amelia thought to herself, her heart fluttering nervously. Maybe... maybe I can trust them.

While Vinnie was talking about himeself ,Lyra was studying Amelia with empathetic eyes. She admired Amelia's resilience, noting the curly locks that seemed to frame her face in an attempt to shield her vulnerability. The girl had an air of quiet strength that Lyra found both admirable and heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, Scott stood protectively by Lyra's side, his black hair falling over his scrutinizing brown eyes. As the eldest among them, he felt a deep sense of responsibility, especially towards Vinnie and Lyra. His protective instincts were heightened around Amelia, whom he didn't fully trust yet. He observed her with a mix of caution and empathy, sensing her fear and hesitance, and recognizing the trauma that clouded her features. However, Lyra quickly noticed his intense gaze and interjected:

"Scott, enough with the glaring. She's one of us," Lyra chided gently. Turning to Amelia, she added, "Sorry about him. He's just overly protective sometimes. Right, Scott?"

Scott nodded silently, his black hair falling over his brown eyes. Amelia sensed he might be the eldest among them, his protective demeanor speaking volumes.

"What's your name? Can you talk?Since when are you here?"Vinnie's words spilled out hurriedly.

"Vinnie, you're scaring her," Lyra scolded lightly.

"Sorry," Vinnie apologized quickly.

Before Amelia could gather her thoughts, she blurted out softly, "Amelia. My name is Amelia."

Vinnie's eyes lit up with a genuine smile. "Amelia," he repeated softly, savoring the sound of her name.

"Wow, your name is beautiful, just like a princess, right, Lyra?" Vinnie remarked with admiration.

Lyra smiled warmly and agreed, "Yes, so pretty."

Amelia couldn't help but smile at their words. A warmth spread through her, a feeling she had long forgotten — the possibility of trust and companionship.

A loud gasp broke the moment. "Oh my God, Scott, pinch me. This isn't a dream," Vinnie exclaimed. "You're smile is so pretty. No, wait, its gorgeous!"

"I think I'm in love," he added whimsically.

Lyra snorted at him. "Please, as if she would look at you. She's beautiful, and you're... well, you know."

"Hey!" Vinnie protested, laughing.

Scott watched their banter with a small smile, understanding their dynamic well. Amelia caught herself feeling grateful for their acceptance, a rare emotion in her recent memory.

They're noticing her... her hair, her eyes, her smile, Amelia thought, a mix of vulnerability and hope swirling within her. Maybe... just maybe, they could be my friends.

"Thank you," she managed to say softly, her voice barely above a whisper. She never felt this safe, this understood. "You guys are pretty too."

"Heard that, Lyra? She thinks I'm pretty," Vinnie teased, his grin infectious. "Well, it would be better if you said handsome, but pretty does the job."

His smile reached his eyes, and Amelia couldn't help but smile in return. In that moment, a bond formed — an unbreakable friendship between two boys and two girls, bound by shared suffering but fueled by hope. They knew they had each other, and as long as they did, they believed they could endure whatever came their way.

As Amelia settled into a semblance of peace, she found herself thinking, Maybe... just maybe, there's hope for us after all.
