The knock on the door was small, but Molly, Nico's foster mom, still looked up, confused.

"Who's at the door?"

"Just a friend," Nico said, before opening it.

Will Solace walked in, a half smile on his face, and a duffel bag slung over one shoulder. Probably enough clothes for the whole weekend. "Hey," he muttered weakly.

"Molly, this is Will. Will, Molly." He turned to her. "We're gonna go downstairs."

Will followed Nico through the massive maze of halls until they reached what looked like a converted game room. Nico opened the door to reveal 2 beds, a bookshelf, a desk, and a tv, all laid out of a carpet that resembled those of old arcades.

"Benvenuto in casa mia," Nico said, flopping down at the foot of his bed. "Welcome to my home."

Will tossed his bag onto the second bed and sat on the floor.

"So," Nico started awkwardly. "Do you want to talk about it or..."

"Um. Not particularly, if that's okay."

"Okay, uh want to watch something?"

"Yeah okay"

Nico smiled softly, and tossed him the remote.

"So you speak italian? That's really cool," Will attempted to conversate.

"Oh, yeah, I used to live in Venice." Nico smiled at the thought.

"Why'd you move?"

Nico wanted to give an answer but he really didn't know so he just shrugged.

Will continued to scroll Netflix but he was clearly still curious about Nico's origins. "Do your parents miss it?"

"Um," Nico froze, remembering that Will was new in town. "They aren't around anymore."

"Oh. Ohmygosh I am so sorry I shouldn't have been so nosy." He flushed and looked around the room.

"It's okay. Molly and her husband, Ted, are my foster parents." He frowned awkwardly. "What about your family?" He changed the subject out of a fear that Will would ask about his sister. That was something he wasn't ready to share.

"Well as you saw my stepdad is a total piece of shit. He hates that I'm gay and does whatever he can to torture me. I don't know what my mom sees in him, she's so sweet. And to make it worse, I'm like 99% sure he's running with some gang."

"Wow." Nico wanted to offer comfort, to reach out a hand but he was too scared to freak out his first houseguest in over a year. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be." He paused. "Hey, so you're like emo, right?"

"Uh, I guess? I dunno." Nobody had ever asked him that, just decided for him.

"Well, do you like scary movies? We could watch Scream."

Nico giggled and grabbed the remote. "Scream isn't a scary movie." He clicked on an older looking film, The Exorcist "Try this."

"Uh, this looks scary? No thank you" Will tried to grab the remote but Nico held it tighter.

"Come on, I won't let anything bad happen to you." Nico meant to say it jokingly but Will stood up and moved to sit next to him, his eyes saying that he believed it.

"Fine, but if I scream it's your fault"

And Will definitely screamed, and Nico laughed and told him it was okay. And for just one night everything seemed okay.
