Before

I've defined, I've designed my recovery

April wakes up one morning, and laughs at her two sleeping roommates.

There's a knock at the door, causing her to groan.

"Who the hell would be visiting this early in the day?"

She swings the door open to reveal Saraya's boyfriend on the other side.

"April." He greeted her, smiling.

"Saraya's sleeping."

"I know, judging that I called and she hasn't answered. I came to see you, actually."

April looks over her shoulder and looks back at him.

"Can I come in?" Jon asks, raising his eyebrows.

"Uh, sure." April moves aside so he could come in.

As he sits on the couch, she goes over to the kitchen and makes herself a coffee.

When it finishes, she sat down beside Jon.

"So, what did you wanna talk to me about?" She asks, taking a sip of her coffee.

"I wanted to tell you a story."

She furrows her eyebrows. "Why?"

He scoffs and rolls his eyes. "Just listen to it."

"Okay, but just know that I'm super scared right now..." She awkwardly chuckles.

"Nothin' to be scared about." They look at each other and Jon continues, "So one time, I had a close friend. Him and I were practically inseparable. He had an adorable little sister who was about a year younger. She was short and annoying but beautiful at the same time."

"She sounds interesting..."

"Oh she was, and the cute part was that she had this huge crush on me." His eyes light up when he says that. "Back then, I didn't really wanna show that I felt the same way so I treated her like shit."

"And now, you're very open about your feelings. You and Saraya make out almost everywhere you guys go!"

He chuckles softly. "I know, but anyway, she used to always jump on me and hug me all the time. She made things hella obvious." He smiled. "That girl was something else...so one day, it was our graduation day, me and her brother were graduating high school and getting ready to move into our college dorm. So she cried while watching us leave. She hugged her brother, but just looked at me. I finally took it upon myself and kissed her. That kiss changed everything."

"How? You're with someone else now. That girl obviously means nothing to you anymore."

"Oh you have no idea." He shakes his head. "She means a lot more now than she did before."

"Ooh, drama! Tell me more!" April puts her coffee on the table and rests her chin on her hand.

"So we kissed and it was magical. She told me I was actually her first kiss. We ended up actually getting together and I took her virginity." He shakes his head again. "Biggest mistake I've ever made."

"Why?"

"It was because after I finally got her in bed, I ended up getting her pregnant."

April's jaw drops but she nods so he can continue.

"We were young and I wasn't ready to be a father, so we argued and it eventually started to affect her. She got so stressed that she ended up losing the baby."

"I'm sorry..."

"No, don't bother. I wasn't cut out to be a father anyway."

"Would you like to go on? Or do you wanna stop? I don't like the mood it's putting you in."

"There's a reason I'm telling you this, so I'm continuing..." He sighs. "Where was I?"

"Girl lost the baby."

"Oh, so she loses the baby and vowed that she would never speak to me again. Her brother completely cut me off too. I mean, that's his baby sister and she was still in high school. I was only his best friend, so between us, he'd definitely choose her and I don't blame him. If I were in his position, I'd do the same."

"That really sucks."

"So one night, I got piss drunk and I made some bad choices."

"How bad?"

"Horrible. I broke into her house and woke her up from her sleep. I came in through her window so her parents wouldn't notice. I violently shook her and she woke up. She yelled at me and told me to leave but I wasn't having it. I pushed her off her bed and she quickly stood up. She got in my face and spat hateful words toward me. She smacked me in the face and it made me angry. So I shoved her, she tripped on her way down and she somehow hit her head, knocking her unconscious. Her brother bursted into the room and he couldn't look at me the same way anymore. We both thought she was dead. He soon backed me into the wall and grabbed me by the collar, saying how much he hated me and that I was no good for his baby sister. Through all the shock, I still offered to take her to the hospital. I kept telling myself it was an accident, but I wasn't really sure if it was. I always visited the hospital to see if she was okay and the doctor said she lost all of her memory. She didn't remember who her brother was and to this day, she still doesn't remember who I am."

"This story sounds familiar. I think I've seen a tv show with a similar storyline or something..."

"Or maybe you've actually lived it and didn't realize it."

She shakes her head and furrows her eyebrows. "What the hell are you talking about? Jon-"

"April, it was you."
