she loved Luke, they had been best friends
since she joined camp.

All the Are's kids looked badly at Percy. They did not like him

but their snarky faces left as soon as Alana smiled at them.

Percy didn't understand how someone so mean could  hold so much power.

He did notice how she was nice to everyone else though.

Alana thought the Are's kids hated Percy more than she did.

Now that, in Alana's words, was "super crazy."

She would frequently look at her nails, wondering where her pearl ring went.

She had lost it the day Percy arrived,

Alana was sure everything bad was HIS fault.

"They work harder to be your friend, and they think twice before messing with you." Luke explained to Percy

"Hey!" Percy yelled at some girl who recently bumped into him.

it was Clarrisse, Ares's favorite kid.

She pushed Percy to the ground and Alana began to laugh.

"Hey, knock it off, Clarrisse. It's like his first day, come on." Luke defended Percy.

"Wait, so this is the kid who killed the Minotaur. Is that right?" She spat amused.

"Yeah?"

"I'll bet. Look you want attention around here, dummy? You better be ready for it when it comes." She replied scaring him.

Before leaving she stopped in her tracks to bother Alana as well.

"Hey angel, you sure you wanna hang with this kid? He's just as lame as you are."

Clarrisse spoke to the girl, referring to her as the personal nickname she assigned her

"Actually hanging out with him is better than with you so, yeah I'm okay. Run along now."

"Okay then, suit your self." She said walking away laughing with the Ares's kids.

"Well she seems nice."

"Ares kids. They come by it honestly"

"Why don't they mess with you?"

"They know better."

"Luke has a reputation, you 'did' something. Like Clarrisse said, it may be a lie." Alana said

"you are so annoying."

"Only to you" she shrugged.

"So they leave you alone because.. glory?"

Luke nodded.

"So if I get glory, Clarisse wouldn't mess with me either?"

"Here he goes." She complained

"Exactly."

"And people think I'm a big deal."

"Well, sorta, but— "

"And my dad's got no choice but to claim me."

"You can't force the gods to do anything?" Alana stated

"Exactly, they won't follow your rules."
Luke agreed

"Well, yeah, but.. it would make it harder for him to pretend I don't exist right?"

"Maybe..?"

"I really hope you fail so everyone forgets about you."  she mumbled

"Well great! Where do we start?"

"Oh gods... this is where I go!"

She said bumping into Percy's shoulder.

"Watch where you're walking, loser."

Percy sighed loudly.

"You guys like each other don't you?" Luke referred to Percy and Alana.

"God no! She hates me, I hate her back. Mutual feeling."

"well I can see that, but Alana is never mean to anyone. She's usually super nice."

"When I got here, I referred to her as a myth, maybe that made her snap."

"definitely, man. Either way, I'm sure you guys will end up together.

"Do you think, she will ever stop?

"Stop what?"

"Being mean?"

"I mean, I don't know. Listen Percy, she had a rough childhood and not even her parents loved her, you know.

"how? Those were her parents. The myth says they loved her but tragically died, that's all"

"no, the myth is wrong. Alana's parents hated her, but all she wanted was love so she loved them, that's why she looks up to Aphrodite so much, she loves how Aphrodite appreciates her and loves her.. She acts like she doesn't care about her parents, but deep down it hurts her."

"you made her feel unliked or something, like her parents. She will probably warm up to you sooner or later.

Luke explained arriving to the archery camp.
