Lily had been unconcious for 12 hours. when her eyes finally opened with a starin she was in a different place. Or at least a different room. She looked around catiously. It was a tiny, like a supply room, and the light bulb hanging above her head flickered every now and then. There were boxes and small crates on the floor, which was coated in metal fence.
It was really cold and it smelled awfully of alloys. Lily pulled herself into a sitting position. Her whole body ached, especially her stomach and cheek. She felt her wounds with trembeling fingers.
There was a cut on her cheek bone and when she pulled up her school jumper a nasty dark bruise revielled itself. She whimpered and tears escaped her eyes.
"Ow!" Lily sobbed and hugged her knees.
Then, out of no where, Michael burst into the room. Lily jumped up from the surprise and backed up against the wall. She groaned as pain shot to her ankle. Was it sprained or broken? Michael closed the door behind him with a key.
Lily's lower lip started to tremble. He was going to beat her up again. Yes, thats what he was going to do. Her vision wasnt blurry anymore and she could see him more clearer now. His expression was blank.
He stared into Lily's eyes and then after a moment took a step closer to her.
"No." Lily whispered and backed into the corner. She pushed the wall as hard as she could with her back, wishing it would collapse and she could run away. She closed her eyes tightly and hugged her chest and waited for the puncing and kicking to start.
"I aint gonna hurt you, little girl." Michael said quietly. Even at the situation, Lily bit her tongue to stop herself from objecting. She wasn't little anymore. She turned fourteen a only a week ago.
"Then-then what are you g-going to do?" She asked.
"Sit down." Lily sat down obidiently, not taking her eyes off Michael's. They were odd. One was dark brown and the other a deep shade of grey. She had never seen odd eyes before.
Michael knelt down on one knee in front of her and took out a tissue and a bottle of clear ointment from the back pocket of his jeans. He poured it over the tissue and pressed it gently to Lily's cheek. She whinced as the liquid started to sizzle through the cut.
She couldn't help but wonder why Michael was treating her. Or maybe it wasn't ointment at all? Some chemical that was made especially to infect you? Lily pulled away, covering her hand over her cheek.
"I know it stings badly. But, it's only cleaning your wound." said Michael.
"Why?" Whispered Lily. "Why are you helping me?" She let Michael dab at her cut.
"You must be like what, ten?" Lily glared.
"No, I'm fourteen years old."
"Yeah. Sure." Said Michael with a smirk.
"It's true," she said defensively. Then after a moment,"What are you? Twenty five or something?"
Michael smiled. "Whatever you say." Lily smiled back. He folded up the tissue and put it back in his pocket. He sat back and sighed. A minute of silence dragged by.
"I'm sorry." Michael murmered quietly. Lily stared at him. She would have never expected him to say anything like that.
"If I wasn't high and tied up to a chair, I would've made a pancake outta you." She muttered through her clenched teeth.
Michael tilted his head to the side. "Really?" He said sarcastically.
"Yep. I'm tougher than I look." She said through a barely audible voice. Lily hugged her knees and thought, who am I kidding? I can't fight for my life!
Michael leaned slightly forward. "You wanna bet on that?" He aid with a devious smile. Lily stared at him in horror and shivered imediatly. She couldn't fight him! She couldn't even run. She realised what she said was a big mistake.
Michael saw Lily's expression and laughed.
"I'm only kidding." Lili tensed up. She didn't quite believe him. But after another minute passed and nothing happened, she relaxed.
"So how old are you really?" She asked.
Michael shook his head. "Girls and age." He said. Lily felt her face burn.
"I wasn't thinking anything-"
"Yeah." Said Michael sarcastically. She glared at him.
"I was only curious." said Lily and looked away.
"Yeah. Like I said."
"So are you going to tell me. Michael?"
He looked at her. "My names not Michael." He said irratated. Lily stared at him confused. "It's Zeke." He looked over his shoulder. "Those guys just didn't fancy it for their dinner and made me change it."
"Well that explains it," said Lily. "You do look more like a Zeke." Zeke laughed and she smiled. Relaxing by the second.
"Hm..." Zeke put a finger to his lip. "You...look like a," he looked at Lily this was and that, taking hold a piece of her short brown hair and putting it on top of her scalp. It made Lily giggle shakely,"a Lily." He said finally. Lily fixed her hair and hugged her torso tighter.
Of coarse he knew her name. If they knew her route home from school then they probably knew everything there was to know about her. But Zeke didn't know was age she was. Or perhaps he was just teasing her. Lily remembered who was sitting in front of her. The guy who kidnapped her, who beat her up. But still, for some reason, she couldn't make herself feel scared around him. Not anymore. She smiled up at him. After all he did help her and he really wasn't supposed to. Maybe he wasn't as horrid as she thought.
Lily opened her mouth to speak just as they heard a key being twisted in the door. Zeke turned his head sharply. He wasn't suppoesed to be here. And they wouldn't listen to excuses of pathetic sympathy. He had to do something or else he would be turned into mince meat.
Lily panicked and started to shake. Zeke turned back to her. The only way he could get himself out of this mess was by hitting Lily harder than he had before. But he didn't want to do that. It wasn't particularly pleasant the last time.
Just as the door started to creek open Zeke leaned forward and kissed Lily. Lily's belly did summer salts and she stiffened under Zeke's lips. She had never kissed before. She didn't know what to do. Zeke's soft dark hair brushed against her cheek and she relaxed but only by a fraction. Lily heard laughs and then a voice.
"Alright, Michael, that's enough." Zeke pulled back and Lily fluttered her eyes open.
"Look terrified." Zeke mouthed to her, as if she didn't already, and stood up. Lily tried to remember how to breathe.
"You bold boy." Said the man with the high strained voice and did a high five manoeuvre with Zeke. He wore baggy clothes and his hair was maddly bushy.
Zeke shrugged and looked back at Lily. "Don't worry, doll. I aint over with you yet." They laughed and walked out of the room. A man in a dark blue suit walked up to Lily and placed a bowl of porridge in front of her.
"Come on now. Eat up," he said. "We don't want you dying before your time, of hunger." He tapped her under the chin and walked out and locked the door.
Lily breathed out and inhaled for sweet sweet air, putting her hands over her face. She tried to take in everything that just happened. She closed her eyes and touched her lips. She remembered the kiss and went bright red, how Zekes lips were so soft and perfect against hers.
