Detention

We exchanged worried glances as we walked into the classroom. Professor Snape was standing at the front, looking as stern as ever.

"Care to explain why you two are late on the first day?" he asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Uh, sorry, Professor," I stammered. "We, um, lost track of time."

Snape raised an eyebrow. "Lost track of time? How irresponsible. You'll both serve detention tonight. Now, sit down."

We quickly took our seats at the back of the classroom, trying to avoid the curious stares from our classmates.

harry leaned over and whispered, "Nice going, Angelica."

I shot him a glare but didn't say anything. The rest of the class passed in a blur as I kept thinking about how I'd explain this to my Grandparents.

After class, Harry and I made our way to the Great Hall for lunch.

"Well, that was a disaster," I sighed.

"Yeah, no kidding," Harry replied. "We need to be more careful next time."

"Agreed," I said. "Let's just get through this detention and move on."

That night, we reported to the dungeon for our detention. Professor Snape was waiting for us, looking displeased.

"You two will be scrubbing cauldrons without magic," he announced. "Consider this a lesson in responsibility."

As we started our tedious task, Harry muttered, "This is the worst."

"Tell me about it," I replied. "Let's just get this over with."

We worked in silence, the only sound being the scrubbing of cauldrons. It was a long and exhausting night, but we eventually finished.

As we walked back to our dorms, Harry sighed. "Well, that was a memorable first day."

"Definitely not the kind of memory I wanted," I said. "But at least it can't get any worse, right?"

Harry laughed. "Let's hope so."

The next morning, Harry and I were more determined than ever to get to class on time. We woke up early, got ready without any hiccups, and even managed to grab a quick breakfast.

As we walked to our first class, Harey nudged me. "You think Snape is still mad?"

I shrugged. "Probably, but let's just make sure we're not late again."

We arrived at Transfiguration, relieved to be early this time. Professor McGonagall gave us a nod as we took our seats.

After a surprisingly smooth morning of classes, we headed to the library to work on our assignments. As we settled into our usual spot, Ron and Hermione joined us.

"How was detention?" Ron asked with a grin.

"Awful," Harry replied. "We had to scrub cauldrons without magic."

Hermione looked sympathetic. "Well, you two should really try to stay out of trouble."

"Thanks for the advice, Hermione," I said, rolling my eyes. "We'll try."

The rest of the day went by without incident, and we even managed to finish our homework in the library. As we headed back to our dorms, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Maybe this school year wouldn't be so bad after all.

That evening, as Harry and I relaxed in the common room, he turned to me. "You know, despite the rocky start, today wasn't too bad."

I nodded. "Yeah, we survived Snape's wrath and made it through our classes. I'd call that a win."

Just as we were starting to unwind, an owl swooped in through the window and dropped a letter in my lap. I opened it and read the note inside.

"It's from Professor Snape," I said, my heart sinking. "He wants to see us in his office."

Harry groaned. "What now?"

We reluctantly made our way to Snape's office, dreading what awaited us. When we arrived, he motioned for us to sit down.

"I've decided to give you both another chance," Snape began, his expression serious. "But I expect you to prove yourselves. Starting tomorrow, you will assist me with organizing the potions storeroom. This will be your opportunity to demonstrate responsibility."

We nodded, relieved that it wasn't another detention.

"Yes, Professor. We understand," I said.

Snape's gaze softened just a fraction. "Very well. Dismissed."

As we walked out of his office, Harry let out a breath he'd been holding. "Well, that wasn't so bad."

"Yeah," I agreed. "We just need to show him we can be responsible."
