SUNGHOON has a standing whiteboard in his bedroom. it was a birthday present from his mom's boyfriend, who was a professor in one of the most respected universities in the country. he found writing down everything he learned in the whiteboard as the most effective studying method. he could recall the topics he studied and identify the concepts he didn't write and focus on them better.
he never expected that he would be using the same whiteboard that helped him become one of the top students to brainstorm reasons on what would possibly trigger cha dambi to even dare think of the possibility of them dating.
right now the whiteboard had cha dambi's name written in aggressive capital letters on the top of the board. jungwon and jay were sitting on his bed with his dog, gaeul, in between them. they both feasted on snacks they got in the pantry and also fed gaeul her own snacks, patting her in the head once in a while. "i didn't know there were other flavors of this snack," jungwon said out of delight. jay looked at the chips jungwon was holding, "exchange with me. i want to eat that too."
sunghoon's eyes twitched at his friends lack of cooperation. "stop eating. i have to give dambi a proper answer when i see her on monday."
jungwon ate another piece of corn chips, "yeah, because who idiot would think that shrieking right in front of her face would be the right answer?" he snickered.
"well, i'm sorry if dambi saying that to me emotionally scared me!" sunghoon defensively exclaimed.
jay, captain of the boy's volleyball team, shrugged. "still, poor girl," he sympathized. "she was scolded by our coach for leaving suddenly and had to take a couple extra jogs 'round the court. she was also pretty out of her game during practice."
"see, sunghoon? you emotionally scarred the girl too," jungwon shook his head in disbelief.
sunghoon took one impatient, deep breath. "help me now so nobody gets emotionally scarred from now on," he threatened.
his bedroom fell silent, except for the quiet sound of snacks being eaten and shook in the bag. even gaeul curiously looked around the humans who surrounded her due to their sudden silence. "well?" sunghoon asked them.
jungwon raised an inquisitive finger. "what if," he started, "she was dared by her friends to date you?"
"alright, good progress," sunghoon turned around to face the whiteboard. he connected and wrote the word 'dare' to her name.
jay shook his head immediately, "i know dambi's friends. they aren't like that. plus, isn't sorin also her friend? do you seriously think the student council president is the type to suggest something like that?"
jungwon disregarded him with his hand. "i don't know about the president and i don't want to talk about her in case i get karma for even saying her name," he pretended to shiver. "but you can't really know how her friends really act. i trusted my ex's friend then i discovered they were the ones who set my ex up with another guy while we were dating."
jay and sunghoon collectively ignored jungwon before he spirals into missing his ex, which was a quite normal occurrence in their hangouts. "you should also consider the fact that dambi actually likes you, sunghoon," jay suggested to change the topic.
sunghoon's head cranked slowly around towards their direction. his eyes blinked rapidly as if jay had mentioned something diabolical. "are we thinking about the same cha dambi? the same girl who goes out of her way to print those ugly, 'never give up' motivational posters to give to me every time there's an exam because she's oh-so confident she'll beat me?" sunghoon said in one breath.
