SUNGHOON checked his phone for the nth time. it was merely five minutes past six PM, however he was already calculating the time he was missing on studying with each passing minute.

"where is she?" he mumbled to himself, sighting a group of athletes walking out the gymnasium. their voices were loud from the distance as they laughed and chatted. sunghoon looked at the time, growing slightly irritated when he saw a minute have not gone from the last he checked.

"sunghoon?"

sunghoon turned his head to the side and met jay's confused gaze. his eyebrows furrowed at sunghoon, "what are you doing here?" he asked.

"captain, you coming?" one of the athletes from the rowdy group of athletes stopped to call for jay, who waved them off immediately.

jay returned his line of sight towards his friend. sunghoon sighed. this would have all been avoided if cha dambi was early. "i'm waiting for someone," he said vaguely.

"who?"

"just... someone."

sunghoon averted his gaze, making jay more suspicious.

it would take a while for him to explain everything that happened that led up to this moment—and knowing jay, his reaction would probably take another while as well.

the half-assed responses only made jay more confused and angsty. "you're the type to go home after school to study," he pointed out, "and you're definitely not the type to be outside the gymnasium to wait at this hour."

before sunghoon got the chance to retaliate and defend himself, sunghoon's eyes suddenly brightened when he saw two people walking behind jay's back. "dambi!" he loudly called out of nowhere.

both of them stopped, but only one of them answered back. "sunghoon," dambi's eyes were shaking from shock while looking at him. "you actually waited," she said in a state of realization. she didn't question nor doubted him, she was just simply surprised that he was standing in front of him.

"of course," sunghoon innocently smiled. "you asked me to."

his perplexed expression dispersed when he tilted his head, "did you not expect me to wait?"

"sorta? i just took my chances when i asked you to wait for me," dambi said, "since you always go home as soon as classes are dismissed."

jay, who was going back and forth observing the two interacting non-hostilely, chimed in immediately with his face lit up at dambi, "that's what i said!" he exclaimed.

sunghoon was not appreciating the collaboration. "i have club activities sometimes, you know," he directed his response with a passive-aggressive tone towards jay to also send a signal to stop chiming in. "and jay, i think your teammates are waiting. shouldn't you go to them?" sunghoon sent him a sweet smile paired with a laser-sharp glare that have the intention to tell him to get out with no questions asked.

one person who was staying out of their conversation was the tall girl next to dambi. she had short layered hair and was wearing a tight black dri fit shirt that highlighted her skinny, yet toned arms. it was a contrast to dambi who wore a loose oversized shirt over her spandex. the three volleyball players also had their heavy duffel bags worn around their bodies to complete the after training attire.

"jay, let's go," the tall girl spoke for the first time, her voice low and authoritative. jay shot her a look, "do you know something about this too?"

he was unable to hear a response or utter another word when the tall girl forcibly started dragging him away by the arm. "dambs, text when you get home," she waved her hand casually while the boy she was dragging was whining in pain. "you too," dambi waved her hand. sunghoon guiltily waved his hand goodbye at jay, despite the fact that his friend couldn't even move to turn around.
