Ezra's POV

This was happening. This was fucking happening.

Everything in me was screaming for me to turn around and run away but I kept moving forward. I knew if I did, they'd just plan it for another day or fucking spring it on me. With each step through the packhouse, I got closer and closer to meeting my new 'mate'. Partner. Husband. I don't fucking know.

My hands were sweaty and even Lucien slightly paced as we got closer. It was too much. Too soon. But my opinion no longer mattered here. As the Alpha I had to put the well-being of the pack before myself.

"Hey! Ezra, glad to see you can make it." I hear my Beta, Damon from behind me. I turned to look at him and Tyler behind him and they smiled.

The three of us were close, but not close. I don't think we'd been friends outside of the position we were in. And those types of close-knit relationships usually happen with wolf packs. With Lycans, we were pretty independent and family-orientated. I didn't need to see my beta and delta outside of pack arrangements in the same way they didn't need to see me.

"Is there anything I should know before I walk in?" I asked, my brow raising. Tyler's face fell and he sighed.

"How'd you find out?"

I shook my head slightly, "You two really need to find more private staircases to talk."

"Look, it wasn't our idea! The elders they--" I put my hand on Tyler's shoulder to keep him from continuing to freak out.

"I know. I don't blame you. I just--" I stopped myself before I exposed too much, "Let's just get this over with."

We walked in silence the whole way to my office. I didn't need them to give me the rundown when the Elders were going to do it regardless if I knew already or not. I opened my office door and three of the elders were already standing in front of my desk. They turned and bowed to me-- something I'm still not used to--as I sat down in my chair. Tyler and Damon moved to stand behind me as the elders sat in the giant leather chairs before my desk.

Whoever was to be the next Luna wasn't in here yet and that eased some of the anxiety that was rushing through me.

"Alpha Ezra, thank you for meeting with us." Elder Rush started, "As you know, you are nearing thirty, and because you have no mate and are the leader--"

"Yes, I know the rules, Elder Rush." I interrupted. "I understand that you have brought them here?"

"Yes, we have." Elder Rush looked startled. I don't blame him either. I'm sure none of them were expecting me to be so...understanding. If that even is the right word. I just didn't care anymore. And this was the safer option at the end of the day.

"Then bring them in. No need to try and convince me. I understand the reasoning. No need to prolong and make this more dramatic than it needs to be."

I leaned back in the chair lazily. My stubble had grown out a bit more, but I was in no mood to shave it. I ran a finger under my jaw as I watched the doors open and two wolves from another pack walk in. I knew it by their scent, there was always a strange musk to show the difference in whether they were a werewolf or lycan.

The two guys looked around the room. Eyes trailing over everything, then landing on me. It must be his bodyguards or something. Finally, they stepped away, and behind them was who I could only assume would be my future husband. Not only that.
