Lucien's POV
I was sick of these wolves and their shit.
Treating Ezra like he wasn't an alpha, treating me as if they don't know who the fuck I am.
Just because Ezra may be more timid, didn't make me any less than who I was. These Lycan have known me for hundreds of years before I walked this Earth. They've heard the stories of the type of wolf I was. And yet they seemed to forget it because of my human character.
Well, no fucking longer.
While Ezra rested, I'd make sure our pack remembered who I was. I didn't need to be liked. I needed to be respected. Ezra won't demand it, but I will.
I didn't lessen the glow of my eyes as I walked through the streets of midtown. Ezra was still resting from that putrid memory that happened to slip through the walls I built for him. To protect him and keep him safe.
Keep me safe.
Whether he realized it or not, that day was the one that changed everything in us. Broke us in a way that we neither expected nor deserved.
His wolf was cruel to me. I had hoped his human counterpart wasn't. But I was wrong. They both were cruel and vile creatures. Hated us for their faults and their lies and deceit. We were collateral damage to a broken man.
They picked, they bullied, they hated.
His damn wolf picked on me for certain desires that I tried my best to withhold.
I knew what repercussions would come from asking and desiring such an action. I knew what reputation I held and I vowed to myself to only give that part of me to someone I deemed...worthy. He lied.
He deceived. He told me all these things to make me feel safe and secure and I trusted him.
It was a joke.
Some sick game that Wolf was playing.
It was my fault Ezra was hurt in the process. It was my fault...I told Ezra that I trusted the wolf and he'd be the one we could share this secret with. Our mate. The word was disgusting on my tongue.
I made it a vow to myself to never experience such cruelty again. I will not be made to be less than what I was created to be. I was an alpha. Always and forever. I will behave as such.
Many of the pack members saw my glowing eyes as I walked down the street. They bowed before me, something they'd never do if it was Ezra. That irritated me more. No matter how he behaved, Ezra deserved the same amount of respect as I did.
I quickly made it to the restaurant and walked in to see Emily. Her eyes were wide as she took me in.
"A--alpha Lucien," She bowed and stepped back as I walked to the booth. I heard her hurry toward the kitchen, surely telling Kenai I was there.
This would be a quick trip. Just to tell him that he and Ezra's public speaking class will be paused until further notice. I wasn't going to make him come back sooner than he desired. There was no time stamp on this.
I slid into the familiar booth, the ashtray, and a fresh cigar ready to be cut and smoked. He had been expecting us.
I smelled him before I saw him. The strong scent of all man and all things masculine. There was nothing about it that was specific, it just smelled like...strength.
I turned to look at him and was met with another pair of golden eyes. I groaned and rolled my eyes. I had a feeling his lycan would want to make an appearance.
The booth creaked as he slid into the seat before me. Unlike Ezra, my gaze didn't stray from the Lycan's eyes. I welcomed his challenging stare with ease.
"Lucien," He spoke, his voice deeper and rougher than usual. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
I rolled my eyes at him, "Tell your human, Ezra will not be making an appearance here until further notice."
The energy shifted into something dark, "Is he alright? What happened?" He nearly growled.
"Calm down, Armand. He is fine." I squinted my eyes over him as I looked him up and down. His worry seemed...unwarranted. Why would he care?
A flash of something ran through his eyes as I said his name. I ignored whatever that was and continued with the conversation.
"I was here to give a warning that is all." I nodded.
"You didn't come to speak? Get to know one another?" He tilted his head to the side as his eyes raked over my body.
"Why would I do that?" I gritted. I could just get up and leave, but for some odd reason, I felt I was glued to the booth.
Since Armand and I's first interaction he'd been like this. Overly friendly, and interested in things he shouldn't be. He and his human.
"I think we'd be great friends, Lucien. Do you not agree?" He put his elbows on the table and leaned forward. Amusement danced in his eyes.
"I don't need any friends." I don't need anyone.
"Ah, here you go again, rejecting me." He tutted and shook his head.
I rolled my eyes at him again. I've known Armand, many years ago. Before we were both sent to Earth. Even when we were younger he'd wanted to 'be my friend' or whatever that meant. It made no sense. And just like how Kenai was, Armand was the same but more. All wolves and Lycam alike loved Armand. He had a kindness and sensitivity that was rare. He drew in a crowd and commanded attention like no other. All the perfect makings of a Luna. So imagine my surprise when he reached out and he was partnered with Kenai.
"I'm not so bad, am I?" He asked.
I stayed silent. Unable to answer the question. Or morseo I didn't want to.
"This was a courtesy call. I know Ezra appreciates his and Kenai's friendship." I slid out of the booth and looked down at the Lycan before me. He looked unphased by my dismissal. As if he didn't care.
"Okay, I will tell him. I genuinely hope everything is okay with him. And if you need anything at all, I am here."
The sincerity in his words made ms stiff. A small part of me wanted to believe him, but the bigger part of me. The part that knew better threw the words far from my mind as if he hadn't said them.
I nodded and turned on my heels. I needed to get away from that Lycan and his eyes and his sincerity. I will not be deceived again. For my sake. And for Ezra's.
