Indian cuisine is the bestest cuisine in this entire world.
That's what currently circles in my mind as I practically inhale the chicken biriyani with a large piece of potato - sorry aloo - and raita. Biriyani is good. Biriyani with aloo? A free two way ticket to heaven.
I purposely ignore the pair of eyes of a certain someone, who is currently digging a hole into my face and focus on my dinner. I know what she is thinking and is about to ask, but my heart still does a loop - a - doop as she voices her question.
"How did the things with your new - and only visitor - go?" Phoebe asks, her ass perched up on the side of my small bed and her right leg over her left one. She keeps checking her phone every now and then, as if waiting for someone's text.
My cheeks heat up at her question. And at the thought of him.
Sunny hair. Ocean eyes. Kissable lips. A total charmer.
In the last two months since I have been admitted here, I never once had a visitor. The only people I had visiting me are Andrea, Phoebe and Lucy, a friend I made in my temporary stay in this mental asylum. So imagine my surprise when suddenly the door to my room opens and in comes the most gorgeous man I have ever seen in my life.
Okay. I might sound a little exaggerated now but I am not lying. I am not into blonde guys - no offense to any of them - but Nye Mitchell is my handsome exception.
"Lilia," Phoebe's voice breaks me out of my thought and my eyes flit over to her concerned face. "Are you okay? You just zoned out."
I gulp, feeling bad because I made her worry over nothing. I have a habit of zoning out but based on what Andrea said, it's normal and nothing to worry over. But somehow, Phoebe thinks it's harmful for me. It's good to have someone worry over you over little things, even when you are stuck at a point in your life where death is just looming around. But still, I hate seeing my friend losing her shit over something so mundane.I give her a small, reassuring smile. "I am alright, Phoebe." She gives me a curt nod.
"And well, about your question earlier," my cheeks heat up and I can bet my ass she can see me turning into a tomato. "He is..... quite a charmer."My friend breaks out into a fits of chuckle. I resume my eating and stare at her blankly while she gathers her shit and stops laughing. I didn't expect this reaction from her but well she most probably thinks I have a crush on my very unexpected visitor after witnessing my tomato moment.
I might have a tiny crush on him indeed, but she doesn't have to know. After gathering her bearings, she says, "Nothing new when it comes to Nye. Dude started to charm his way into everyone's life ever since he was born." And she snorts.
I quirk an eyebrow. "You know him?" I wasn't expecting her to know him.I quirk an eyebrow. "You know him?" I ask.
Phoebe nods and steals a piece of chicken from my plate. "His family is neighbour with mine back in Glasgow. And I'm best friend with his sister. Remember the wedding I have to attend in January?" She doesn't wait for me to reply. "It's her's actually. And hopefully I'll be present there."
A weight crushes on my chest. I clearly remember the amount of time Phoebe talked about her best friend, Lois, to me. And I know that if my case doesn't get solved by that time, Phoebe will not be able to attend Lois's big day. It will crush her and the person to blame is going to be none other than me.
Phoebe has gone quiet and stares nowhere. And I know she is having the same thought as me.
I reach over and hold her hand in mine. Giving her a reassuring squeeze, I say, "Well, I better expect tons of pictures that day."
She gives me a small smile and squeezes my hand back.
"Anyways, I never expected Nye coming here and leading you into having a huge crush on him." She wiggles her eyebrows.
I blush again, and clear my throat.
"He is just here for his assignment," I say. "And technically, I shouldn't be his patient because I am actually not a patient in this assignment."
From what Phoebe told me, Andrea was the one who assigned me to Nye. Which doesn't make any sense. Because Nye needs a real patient for observation for following six months, not a fake one. Aka me.
"Andrea isn't telling me anything." Phoebe's face scrunches as she delivers me the news. "In fact, she seems to be ignoring me, and even took an early leave today. Which, for your information, she never does."
I mull over the information. It clearly seems Andrea is up to something. But what, that I need to figure it out on my own.
Or maybe get some help from Phoebe.
A knock on the door diverts my attention to there before it opens and a feminine head pops through in. Her mismatched eyes grow big when she sees I have a company.
"Oh," she squeaks. "Sorry. I didn't know you have a company. I will co-"
"Luciella!" Phoebe greets enthusiastically. "Don't run away. Come 'ere, join us babe."
A faint hue of pink adorns Luciella's cheeks. She enters the room and locks the door behind her before coming by the foot of the my bed, plopping down beside me. I hold out my plate of food to her, "You want some?"
She shakes her head, her shoulder length moving with her. "I already had dinner." She pauses, and then scrunches her face. "Although I wish I didn't."
I nod along with her. "They taste like shit."
My eyes flicker to Phoebe, who seems amused for some reason. "Does that mean you have tasted shit?" She asks, with a shit-eating grin.
I roll my eyes and throw my pillow at her. Phoebe laughs loudly, followed by Lucy. Soon, my laughter joins theirs. And I momentarily forget about about all the problems of my life.
Just momentarily.
