Cathrine ran, rushing down a trail just outside of town. She heard a twig snap. looking around for the source she tripped over a branch coming tumbling down atop something. Or someone.
Gregory was also on this trail just outside of town, walking towards his tree house when all of a sudden he heard something and stopped right behind a tree. He peaked out seeing a radient girl rushing towards him.
Stepping from behind a tree he starts to say something when she comes toppling onto him.
"Ow what on earth!" "Oh goodness I'm so sorry." Cathrine responds, pushing herself up slightly to look at him. "It's quite alright." Gregory smiles looking up into her eyes with his hands on her hips.
Cathrine just looks down at him smiling with her hands resting on either side of his chest, captivated by him. "You can get off of me now you know." He smirks. "Oh right, my apologies." She pushes herself off of him, standing and brushing herself off.
"I suppose you could say you fell for me." Gregory grins standing as well. "And I'd suppose you could shut up." "Someone's feisty aren't they." "Do you always have a comment for everything or am I just special?"
"Oh you are definitely special." He smirks, beginning to bow. "Princess."
"Oh I." Cathrine stutters, afraid he'll tell and she'll be caught no longer able to leave. "You are not to tell a soul that I was here do you understand me." "You need not worry darling I shan't." "Do not call me that." "Why do I make you nervous." He raises an eyebrow standing back to full height.
"Why you are insufferable, How dare you?" "Oh please." Gregory rolls his eyes lightly laughing.
With a smile he extends his hand towards hers. "Gregory Bridgerton, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance princess." Cathrine put her hand in his almost blushing when he lightly brings it to touch his lips. "Cathrine, but I suppose you already knew that, didn't you?"
"Well princess Cathrine follow me." George says fingers lacing through hers as he gently pulls her towards him. "Why Mr Bridgerton I don't think-" "Gregory, just Gregory." He smiles brightly interrupting her.
"Very well then Gregory." She grins lightly, liking the taste of his name on her tongue. "I don't think I should follow you it seems rather dangerous."
"Of course it tis that's why it's fun." "But I" he cuts her off, interrupting her once again. "Just trust me." He grins at her looking suspiciously similar to a devil. "I'm definitely going to regret this, aren't I?" Cathrine bites her lip, a small smile making its way upon her face.
She squeezes his hand with a small nod of her head, a silent saying of 'take me away' and with that they're off. Gregory rushes down past the river with Cathrine in step, their hands locked tightly.
She slips her hand from his causing him to stop and look at her questioningly. "I'll race you to the end of the pond Gregory." "You're on Catherine." They narrow their eyes at each other, both inthralld with a good challenge.
"On your mark" Cathrine starts "get set" Gregory continues "GO" they yell in sink rushing to be the fastest.
Cathrine takes the lead until she almost trips on a vine catapulting Gregory into the lead.
"You're such a clutz." He jest, yelling behind him with a look over his shoulder. "Oh would you hush!" She fires back, picking up speed once again and passing him as the pond's end comes into sight.
"I will beat you." Gregory states out of breath as he matches speed with her. "Oh darling I don't lose." Cathrine smirks using all of her will to speed up, running to the end and slowing down just past the pond.
"Gosh darn it!" Gregory complains, finishing mere moments after Cathrine. "I told you so." She smiles equally out of breath as she makes her way to where he's standing next to the pond.
They both plop down, extending their legs out towards the water and lying backwards to look at the clouds.
As they finally catch their breath they look at each other both becoming overcome by laughter. As it dies down Gregory says "how on earth are you so fast? I could hardly keep up with you."
Cathrine smiles, turning her eyes back towards the sky's before answering honestly. "Well truthfully it is from sneaking out of the palace, I've got to be quite quick on my feet to evade the guards."
Gregory smiles still looking at her as she looks up at the sky. "Well you are quite the rebel aren't you?" "Not really if I am to be honest, I just hate being locked up in the castle all of the time."
Cathrine smiles a melancholy feeling overtaking her. "Now do not understand me wrong I am proud to be the princess and will be overjoyed to be queen it is only..." she trails off looking at Gregory only to find him intently listening. "Please do go on."
With his encouragement and interest the princess continues. "It is only that I do not like how high our castle walls seem to be. I simply wish that I might be able to actually go out in the ton, well with permission I mean."
Gregory simply stares at her in awe as he takes in his misjudgment. He thought she was simply a boring pretty princess but in truth, to him she is captivatingly magnificent and indistinguishably interesting.
"I don't know, perhaps I should just be grateful for my role in society, I am quite privileged after all."
Her smile drops slightly as she glances toward him again. Waiting for him to berate her for being ungrateful. "You are unbelievably wise Cathrine, and refreshingly real."
Cathrine grins at him feeling more truly seen than she has yet to before. "Thank you Gregory, you are a surprisingly magnificent listener."
"Of course princess, anytime." He grins standing and brushing off his trousers before extending a hand towards her. "Here follow me, I have something I wish to show you."
Cathrine grabs his hand with a big grin as he pulls her up. Brushing off her dress she narrows her eyes at him. "What exactly is it you are showing me my lord?"
"Just Gregory remember, and you shall see in due time." "Alright Gregory I'll trust you, although only this once." "Come along then princess." "If you are to be just Gregory then just Cathrine will do, thank you."
"Whatever you say princess. Come on."
Gregory grins, pulling her to walk alongside him. As they walk hand in hand, Princess Cathrine can't help but think that this is the start of the adventure she's been wishing for all of her life. While Gregory can't help but think of how pleased he is to have been unexpectedly Fallen on.
(Authors note)
First chapter 🥳Also because I forgot to mention it sooner this work is my own but I do not own the rights to Bridgerton or its characters, simply to Cathrine and the plot of this book.
That being said this won't exactly follow the plot of the series. Nor will it be completely historically accurate.
Also warning you now this book will probably have smut but not until part two once the characters are older.
Thank you for reading darlings and I'll speak to you on the next update.
