i ride on my house through the ton. they curtsey for me as i ride to my house. i hand the stable boy the reigns getting off and i ask the doorman "has he arrived yet?" "he's been here for half an hour your grace. i fear he may tear up the floor from his incessant pacing" he tells me with a chuckle. i laugh "i fear that's just who benny is as you know charles. please have my bags put in my room." he nods "of course"

i walk in and call "Benny" as my voice echos. i hear his footsteps and im hugged and picked up "you're home!" i laugh "benedict put me down!" And he does and he says "3 years love! it's been three bloody years since i've seen your pretty face" stroking my face and i say "you know why" sighing and he nods "family missed you" i nod "i missed them too" as we go in the sitting room and sit together and he asks "how was whales princess? meet anyone else?" his eyes worried "met a lot of people. but i refused every single one of them. isn't that crazy?" i huff.

he asks "you still love him? anthony?" softly. i wave for some drinks and say "i do. but i also hate him for what he's done" he nods "going to enter the season this year ella?" i reply "fathers orders. i'm the heir of whales. i have to marry this season or the season after or i'll be without inheritance and a place to live. don't have a choice im afraid" with a shrug. "going to marry for love?" he asks worried. i reply "there's no place for love in a marriage or relationship benny. learned that the hard way" he says "you can fall in love again ella" softly.

i tell him "im used. no one would truly ever want me the only thing that saves me is being a princess. they'll only want me for my titles and i only want them to be able to keep my fortune and home and everything that comes with it. it's a business transaction" with a shrug. he furrows his eyebrows "you can't seriously think that way ella. love is all you wanted" "yeah well i had it and see where it got me benny? back to square one. i do it this way and i wont be hurt" i tell him with a shrug and he sighs "he's going to flip" i send him a smile "i dont care he has his precious siena now. he's not my problem and im not his" he looks at me and says "you know he loves you" i laugh "love? what does anthony bridgerton truly know about that benny? cmon. i hear there's a event coming up for the queen to choose her precious gem of the season. help me choose" he smiles and claps "off we go darling" and we head to my room where i try on dress after dress until we find the perfect on.
