Sean's POV:
"Ah! Jake, be careful!" I screamed as he fell into my arms. He fainted. I carried him on my back and ran outside onto the parking lot. At this time, the firefighters had arrived and about half the school was still on fire. Firefighters ran everywhere, doctors picking up fainted people and bringing them inside the ambulances. I ran to one of them, though limping. "Hey, my friend fainted! Can you help him?" I asked, panicked. The doctor nodded as she took him onto the stretcher and into the ambulance. "Well, how about you? Are you ok?" She asked, as she saw me limping. "A heavy piece of metal fell on my leg. I don't know if it's broken or..." I explained. "You might need a cast, go on up with him. We'll check you guys up at the hospital." She said, gesturing to go inside and sit. I walked slowly into the ambulance and sat on the bench, as I saw Jake unconscious on the stretcher. "Oh Jake, please be ok." I whispered as the doctor came in to help him.
She first started giving him oxygen with a mask, hoping it'll help with his consciousness, and then, he started to breathe! "Jake!" I screamed in joy. The doctor turned to me and said, "Please don't scream, it'll discomfort him." "Oh, sorry about that." I apologized, as Jake started to breathe more easily. "Alright, his breathing is stable, that's good. What do you need, bud?" she asked. "Can you see if my leg is broken?" I asked. She nodded. "Ok, let me take a look." She answered, gesturing to me to put my leg onto a chair. She started to touch it and squeeze it, asking me if it hurt or not, which I had mostly said yes to. "Hmm, might be a broken leg, it'll be better to look at the hospital, will you be awake until then?" she asked me. I nodded. "Ok, good. I'll monitor his breathing and my coworker is gonna be driving to the hospital ok?" she said, as the engine whirred. "Yeah, do you need more info on what happened?" I asked. "Yes, but not right now, we're trying to keep you safe from the unhealthy ash inhalation." She replied. I nodded. "Thank you ma'am." She smiled. "You're welcome."
A couple of minutes passed by as the ambulance drove, Jake's breathing getting significantly better. And as we got closer to the hospital's parking lot, Jake was almost conscious, moving his hands to try and figure out his surroundings. Then I saw him open his eyes. "Jake! You're alive!" He smiled, smug and nonchalant. "You didn't think I would go out that easily did you?" I blushed in slight embarrassment. "No! I was just worried that you might not wake up until... tomorrow, o-or something." I nervously chuckled. He looked at me, still smug. "Uh huh." I looked down trying to hide my stupid obvious smile I had on my face. Why am I like this?!
"Sean, your leg, is it broken?" Jake asked. I shrugged. "I dunno, the doctors have to take me to the hospital to check." Jake sighed. "Hopefully it's not broken." I nod. "Me too." We had a second of us just smiling at each other, but it ended when the ambulance stopped the engine. The doctor inside with us explained, "Ok, we're here." as the door opened by the driver. We hopped out, the doctor giving me a wheelchair to not hurt my leg more as I sat on it. The driver rolled the chair towards the hospital entrance as the doctor was rolling Jake from his hospital bed. We got into our own hospital rooms and saw my parents inside. They seemed not happy at all, as per usual. "Sean Everett, how in god's name did you get hit by a hot piece of metal?" My dad screamed, enraged. "It wasn't my fault! Didn't you hear there was a FIRE at school dad?!" I answered, screaming. "Don't raise your voice at me son!" I turned my hand into a fist, he was getting on my nerves, as usual but he didn't even care that people could've died or that his own son could've died. "I have to if it's the only way you can listen to me!" I yelled. "Is that a way to talk to your father?" My mom pointed a finger at me as if I was the one who did something wrong. The doctor finally stepped in. "Please get out, we need to perform an x-ray and the radioactive light might be harmful to you!" My parents grumbled as they walked out and I could hear my dad saying, "Great, now I have to pay a fortune for my son's stupid mistakes." I felt a little heartbroken but at the same time, I expected it. The doctor positioned me for the x-ray machine and started it.
I was feeling sleepy as my doctor was still looking at my ankle after ten minutes, when finally she stopped the machine and got me out onto the wheelchair again. "I regret to inform you that you have a broken bone."
