Chapter 2

LUCY

Lucy was sitting in the police station, lost in her thoughts staring at nothing while waiting for the officer as her blood sample was gone for a DNA test. She was thinking and mentally preparing herself for worst-case scenarios that could happen to her now and whatever kind of life she would be going to live now with some complete strangers. Her thoughts were interrupted by the same female police officer entering the cabin she was sitting in. The officer said in a cheerful voice trying the lighten up the environment, "Hello again dear, you'll need to wait for 1 or 2 days for the DNA test report to come...till then you can stay in the temporary guardianship of an adult...if you know any adult person who you trust then you can call and tell them to come to the police station to sign some papers, so we can let you stay with them for the time being". Lucy nodded at the last part, pulled out her phone, and dialed her mom's secretary's number hesitatingly not sure if he'd come or not as he had all the reasons to deny her request as her mom was no more and he only worked for her mom.

Lucy was close to her mom's secretary, Enzo, as her mom used to handle business mostly from home because of Lucy so Enzo was also used to be at her home helping her mom with her business. Lucy was used to seeing Enzo at her house ever since she was young and when she was young she even used to play with him. She never felt uncomfortable around him and used to treat him as her friend. He taught her a lot of things like playing basketball and skating and after Lucy's lots of requests, he agreed to teach her shooting when she was just around 10. She told him not to tell her mom about the shooting part as she'd get mad at her and her secretary haha.....

She was thinking about all this when the call was picked up from the other end and the voice came "Hello...Lucy?". Lucy was standing there holding the phone to her ear wanting to speak but her mouth couldn't form any words. She just didn't know what to say. She just didn't know how to ask him for a favor as whoever she asked a favor or help from had left her. She didn't want to lose anyone anymore. "Hello...?" he said again and this time Lucy just forwarded her phone towards the police officer who was standing there this whole time staring at the girl. She took the phone from her hand and spoke "Hello...I am Angelina Rose from the New York police station.", she then explained the whole situation to him, and to Lucy's surprise he agreed to come and sign the temporary guardianship papers. 

Upon reaching the penthouse after an hour's ride, Lucy directly went to her room on the first floor and locked the door while Enzo went to the guest room on the ground floor that was near the exit. Lucy was in her room on the verge of having a mental breakdown but she didn't cry this time...this time she didn't want to feel weak. She just decided to go to bed forgetting about everything...oh, she loved sleeping! Sleep was her form of escapism.

She woke up and looked at the time, it was 6 in the evening. She lazily dragged herself to her bathroom to get freshen up. She splashed cold water on her face and stared at her tired self staring back at her in the mirror. Deciding on not to overthink, she came out of the bathroom and, went inside her walk-in closet and decided to wear something warm. She wore a black oversized hoodie and wide-leg dark blue denims and at the end she wore her specs. She was myopic that's why she used to wear specs most of the time. She came out and went to her study table to pick up her AirPods and bag, and kept some of her academic books and her IPad in it. She made her way out of her room and looked around for Enzo. She checked the living room and kitchen but couldn't find him so she decided to check the guest rooms, she saw one of the guest rooms unlocked and she knew that he was inside. She decided not to disturb him so she left a note in the kitchen saying "I AM GOING TO A CAFE DOWNSTAIRS" and then she went out.

As mentioned earlier, Luna Tower is a residential and commercial building, so there are many shops mostly cafes on the 45th floor, bars, and clubs on the 70th floor, and a few clothing showrooms in the shopping complex on the ground floor for the building residents and some outsiders who are VIP card holders. There's a medical store too in the complex. (The residents of penthouse and top-five floors are also VIP card holders.).
