Despite his large size, Zephyr was graceful as he perched on the end of the bed that Sera was bound to. He pulled his lips back into a smile, his sharp teeth flashing.
He closed his eyes in concentration, like one did when they prayed. Sera gasped as his large body folded and twisted, shrinking until he was the size of a bird.
No, he was a bird. A large, white owl with large blue eyes, the color of sapphire.
"What in Heaven's name..." Sera's voice trailed off as the owl-Zephyr hopped towards her. He cocked his head and his large eyes blinked several times.
She lifted her hand to stroke his white feathers. Zephyr cooed before stretching his large wings; flapping several times, he lifted himself from the bed and flew around the room before perching on Circe's shoulder.
Circe gently stroked his feathers, her scowl finally leaving her face. "Zephyr is a Faiorn, he can transform into whatever creature he wishes but his true form is this. A blue eyed snow owl."
Her voice was soft and held adoration in its tone. She smiled as she stroked his wings for a moment before swinging her arm up in the air.
Zephyr flapped his wings, catching himself. Before his body hit the floor he transformed back into his human-like form.
"Oh my," Sera lifted a hand to her lips in awe. She had never seen anything like him in her life. She couldn't even conjure him up in her imagination.
She turned to Elias. "How did you-how do you...?" Her words failed her as she tried to grasp what she had just seen.
Elias smiled and took a seat at the wooden table. "Zephyr and Circe found me hiding behind the pillar, they were sent here by the Academy to hunt that thing-"
"The two headed humanoid?"Circe shook her head. "No, although we did take them down. We were hunting that vampire, we had been trailing her for months-"
Sera's spine straightened and a chill came over her. Vampire? Vampires were things from stories told to children at night to scare them to sleep.
"Vampire? Vampires aren't..." her eyes trailed over to a now human Zephyr. The word "real" didn't seem appropriate anymore. Zephyr shouldn't be able to go from being human to being a bird.
If Faiorns were real, why couldn't vampires be real as well? That would only mean everything else she had been told as a child were also real.
This meant the Devil was probably real.
"Real? Vampires are very real, did you not know this before you went chasing after the thing?" Circe's dark eyes narrowed. "Or were you simply a complete fool bent on trying to get yourself killed?"
Sera's mouth fell open. "That girl was a vampire?"
Zephyr shook his head. "That thing was a vampire, once upon a time she might have been a girl."She had looked perfectly human to Sera, despite her blood red eyes. Her movements had been too fluid, too perfect for a regular human girl.
"So you too hunt vampires? What is this Academy Elias mentioned? What does this have to do with me? And for God's sake why am I tied up?" Her words came out like a fountain and she let out a huff of relief after.
