Bianca P.O.V.
I always knew my family was weird. Like my name, for example. They said it was one of Dad's old friends from camp. But I've never met her. Wouldn't they want me to meet my namesake? Whenever I ask, Dad awkwardly laughs and mumbles something about her being Uncle Nico's sister, then changes the subject. Same with Uncle Nico and Mom. Except Uncle Nico seems a lot less humorous about it.
Today, they seemed a bit more off. They tried to hide it, but even my brothers, Luke and Charles, noticed. (They're twins, 7 years old, Luke and Charles aren't even similar, but whatever) As a very perceptive 13 year old myself, I was about to go in their room and ask what was wrong, but I heard voices, so I stopped myself.
"Camp.....Danger.....Delphi...." I couldn't quite hear full sentences, but I could catch words. Wait. Wasn't Delphi that Greek prophecy thing from the myths? Why would they be talking about Greek Mythology? The voice also sounded too gravelly to be Dad, almost like a teacherly tone, which again, was definitely not Dad. It didn't sound like it was coming from a phone, since it was too clear. Mom and Dad didn't have phones anyway. They never even let us (Read: Me) get phones. Which is so unfair, I'm old enough for one, aren't I?
Whoops. One thing to know about me, I seem to be the only Jackson-Chase kid that inherited ADHD from both parents, so I seem to be twice as hyper. I think my brothers might've gotten it half way, if that's even possible. Anyway, back to the point.
The voice seemed to be mixed with water gurgling. There was a strange water fountain in their room, and I'd always wondered why. Could it be used as a phone? Mom was pretty smart, maybe she engineered something to communicate? I peeked the door open a little bit more, and saw Mom and Dad sitting on their bed, holding each other. In front of them, there was a face in the fountain. I couldn't quite see it, but it seemed to be the source of the teacher voice. "I recommend you and your family move somewhere safer until we figure out what is going on. I will give you updates, but try to stay away from the camp area." Said the voice. Move away?! What danger? Before I could barge into the conversation, Dad stood up and spoke.
"I'm not moving my family for a prophecy! I don't mean to be rude Chiron, but Annabeth and I are more than ready to face monsters, and we can train our kids if we have to." Chiron? Like from the myths? Maybe it's a nickname... "Percy, I was going to save it as a surprise but... I'm in no shape to be fighting monsters..." Mom rubs her belly, that's bulging as if she's.... Pregnant?! Dad seems to be in the same shock I am. "What? When- How- What?!"
"It's a girl, so I was thinking we could name her Grace. After...After Jason" Mom said, the last part barely a whisper. "Jason? Who's that?" I accidentally blurt out. I had heard of him before, but Mom and Dad never spoke about him directly in front of me. It was always in front of Mom and their friends. They all seem so close. As if they had all been through Heck and back together. Mom and Dad say I shouldn't swear at all until I'm 18, but something tells me they're being hypocritical.
Wait. Again? Seriously? I really need to get this double ADHD under control. Roll the tape!
"Bianca?" I hear Dad say. Crap, Crap, Crap! Why didn't I just stay quiet? "How long have you been standing there?" He asks. Part of me wonders if I should ask him what the heck is going on. Better to wait, I tell myself. No use in worrying him now, with the baby and all. I notice that the water voice is gone. When did they hang up on him?
"Hello? Earth to Bianca!" Mom waves her hand in front of my face, shaking me from my thoughts. "Oh! I...um... heard Dad freaking out about something so I stopped to listen. Are you pregnant again?" Their faces relax ever so slightly, but then they try to cover it up with shock. "Don't tell your brothers, but you're going to have a sister!"
"Finally, another girl in the house! Now at least we'll be equal!" I lightly elbow Dad, and high five Mom. "So, when is she due?" I ask. "Not until late October, but you never know! She might take after her father."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He says. "What do you think, Seaweed Brain? You can never wait for anything! For all we know, she could come early September!" She jokes, and I notice a rekindling in her eyes. They're trying so hard to be happy, I think. Why can't that guy just let them?
"Bianca, is your stuff ready? You have school tomorrow, don't forget!" Mom reminds me. Ugh, who even invented school? Home school was hard enough with mom giving me pop quizzes every second. Now I know all the US capitals, presidents, and state flowers by muscle memory. I'm starting at Yancy Academy, where my dad reluctantly enrolled me, since it was the only middle school that would take me after he explained that I had "Double ADHD" and Double Dyslexia. Again, inherited from both parents, except my brothers don't have it at all, which is so unfair.

Beep Beep Beep. Beep Beep Beep. SMASH "Bianca! Did you destroy your alarm clock again?!" Mom yells into my room. "Ummmm No?" I respond, not sure what to say. I set down the baseball bat and start to get ready for my first day of school. Yippee. "Mom, I honestly don't know why I have to go to in person school." I complain over my blue waffles and bacon. Not that the waffles are bad, or the bacon for that matter.
"We made a deal, Bianca. If you wanted to be home schooled for the first half, fine. But you had to go in 7th grade no matter what." She emphasized as she flipped the bacon on the stove. "Besides, it'll be good for you to meet some new people-" Dad cuts her off. "Yep! I met one of my very best friends at Yancy!" He says as he flips a 7th blue waffle onto my plate. "Then how come you hate that place so much?" I jump in. A stunned silence creeps over the room. "Dad! Can I have more waffles please?" Charles asks. Dad looks grateful for the change of subject. "Coming right up, bud!"
Dad insists on driving me to school. "Remember, be polite, ask for help when you need it, and be social! I want you to make new friends!" I tune out, watching the people pass by. It's barely even 7 am and dozens of people are already out and about, going who knows where. Suddenly our car slows down. "Whoops! Looks like there's some traffic over here good thing we left early!" I hear Dad say, but I'm not listening. I'm staring at the snake lady eyeing our car, and lick her lips.
Then she leapt onto our windshield.
