Chapter 3 - And They Were Roommates

"Monsters University!" The bellowing screech startled Mike awake. He jumped up, hitting his head against the window just as the bus came to a halting stop.

Mike stared with his wide, glassy eye at the ornate gates of his new school. "We're here, baby!" He exclaimed as he gathered his belongings and began to scoot his way out from his seat. He was just about to step foot into the corridor when the big blue monster planted his foot right in front of him. He took a good ten seconds stretching and cracking his back in Mike's face before he turned his bottom towards him to retrieve his luggage from the overhead bins.

Mike stared at him dumbfounded. "Excuse me, but this is my stop! I need to get off!" He tried to squeeze through, but the monster just blocked his way.

"And this is my stop too, little guy." He turned around and slammed a brand new Monsters University cap on top of his head, smirking when he saw Mike's jaw hanging open. "See you at school!" He chuckled as he squeezed his way down the corridor towards the front of the bus.

Mike felt heat rising up his face. He teared his own battered Monsters University cap off his head and shoved it into his backpack.

"Are you getting off or not?" The droning voice asked over the intercom. He saw the bus driver narrow his eyes at him through the rearview mirror for the second time that trip.

"Yeah, yeah...I'm coming." Mike walked down the aisle, occasionally bumping into the few remaining monsters who were still asleep in their seats.

"Not so bright-eyed and bushy-tailed anymore, huh?" The bus driver chuckled as she watched Mike slouch down the stairs and out of the bus.

Mike was caught by surprise and barely had any time to raise his fist and shout "you just wait" as the bus rolled away.

Thankfully, the large, hideous, rude blue monster was nowhere to be seen once Mike approached the entrance to his destiny. He sighed and closed his eye as he stood under the archway.

    "Mike Wazowski," he said to himself, eyes still closed as his whole life up until now flashed across his mind. He winced once the thought of the blue monster popped into his mind. "You can't let jerks get in your way anymore. You are about to start the most important chapter of your life..." He hesitated, taking a deep breath before he opened his eye. "And you are going to kill it!" He dashed through the arch, skipping as he passed underneath it. "LET'S GO! NEW BEGINNINGS!"

    After touring the large expanse of the campus, checking out the clubs fair, and completing registration, Mike headed to his dorm building. It pleased him to hear that his roommate was also a scaring major.

Finally! I'll get to meet a like-minded monster, he thought.

But right as he was about to unlock his door, it was flung open and the sight of who was standing behind it shook Mike to his bones.

"YOU!" Mike screeched, mind reeling.

"You?" The blue monster jumped backwards at the sight of him.

"What are you doing in my dorm room?!?" Mike was freaking out now. His hands were flying in all directions as he tried to make sense of the situation.

"Your dorm room? This is my dorm room. And I'm waiting for my scaring major roommate, so you can just scoot on out. I think the liberal arts majors are down there." The blue monster tried to push Mike out of the way and down the hall, but Mike planted his green feet and did not budge (plus, there were other monsters moving into their dorms, so it would not be a good idea to block up the hall).
