"LILY!"The redhead grunted in her sleep and rolled over.
"LILY," someone yelled, "I'M SIRIUSLY GOING TO DUMP THIS PITCHER OF ICE COLD WATER ON YOUR HEAD IF YOU DON't GET UP!"
"Mmmm hmmm," sighed Lily in her sleep, "I'm getting up."
Marlene regarded her friend with raised eyebrows before dumping the entire content of her pitcher onto Lily.
"Now you're getting up," Marlene said grinning.
Lily sat up with a start, her fiery red hair hanging wild and tangled down her back. "I said I was getting up! Why are you here so early, anyway?"
Marlene scoffed. "Early? It's almost eleven!"
"It is not!" protested Lily.
Marlene gave her best friend her signature Raised Eyebrows™ as Lily glanced at the clock on her wall.
"TEN FIFTY-SIX! HOW?"
"I dunno, maybe you overslept because you didn't set an alarm?"
"Don't tease me Marls, this is an embarrassment," Lily said, covering her face with her hands.
"I'll say. But you don't need to worry, Lily. I'm used to you, and the only other people who know are your parents and Sirius. Your sister's snoring like a-"
"WAIT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY SIRIUS?" Lily demanded, alarmed.
Marlene blinked. "Oh, gosh, I was supposed to surprise you!"
"SURPRISE ME WITH WHAT?" asked Lily, getting more and more agitated each minute.
"Don't be such a drama queen," Marlene said, rolling her eyes. "Pack your trunk and get ready, and then I'll show you. Oh, and do something with your hair. Your head looks like a red tumbleweed."
"Fine," Lily grumbled as she got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. "But then you have to tell me what's going on."
After using the bathroom and brushing out her hair, Lily threw on her favorite Weird Sisters shirt and jean shorts. "'Kay, Marls, I'm ready!" Lily called as she adjusted a strand of hair before walking back into her room and tossing some more casual clothes into her mostly packed school trunk.
Marlene looked her friend up and down, and then sighed. "Well, I guess that'll have to do. You'll probably regret it eventually, but - eh."
Lily rolled her eyes. "Are you going to tell me what's going on?"
"Patience, Lily, Patience," Marlene grinned. "Go say goodbye to your parents, and then I'll show you."
Lily rolled her eyes for what felt like the hundredth time that morning, but followed Marlene down the stairs.
"Mom, Dad? Marlene's here!"
"Ah, there you are, dear," Mrs. Evans said to Marlene. "Did you have a hard time waking Lily up? I know how she is."
"Mum!"
Mr. Evan's grinned. "How'd you get in, anyway, Marlene? The front door's been closed this whole time."
"Through Lily's window," Marlene said casually.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans didn't bat and eye. They were used to Marlene. After all, she'd been Lily's best friend since they were eleven.
"Have you a mode of transport ready, dear? Or do you need a ride?"
Marlene smirked. "Don't worry, our transportation is right outside," she said, much to Lily's surprise. "What? We aren't using the Floo Network?"
"Nah. This way's much funner."
"'Funner' is not a word, Marlene!" Lily said, exasperated.
"Whatever," replied her friend, bored. "Let's hurry up and get outside, already."
The two stepped outside, carrying Lily's trunk in between them. "Where are we going, anyway?" asked Lily.
"Just a little further. Surely you can handle it, Lily? Don't tell me the trunk is too heavy. I wasn't the one who packed all of these books."
"Yeah, Marlene, but that's only 'cause you can't read," said Lily, rolling her eyes.
"Excuse me-," Marlene started, but was cut off as the two rounded the and Lily shrieked.
"Marlene Dianna McKinnon!" Lily whisper-yelled.
"Oh, calm down. Don't be so dramatic. This is our form of transport, I told you!" Marlene said, not even attempting to hide her grin at Lily's horrified expression.
A/N: I bet you guys can guess what Lily's horrification is for. What do you think? Also, don't you just love Marlene? She's always my favorite character in Marauder fanfics.
