TW: Domestic Violence, Abuse, and Child Abuse. This chapter is rough, but this is how Ivy first uses her powers.
Vought like always was never above using their power and money to get or cover up whatever they wanted. Ivy's parents were new and didn't have much money, and it was worth the risk whether or not Ivy gained powers.
Janet never thought she'd be a parent who'd allow a corporation to inject her baby with a non-legal experimental drug for money. Then again, her life has changed a lot since she met the love of her life. Tony, introduced her to a whole new way of living. He's shown her life can be different and enjoying from a contrasting perspective, even though they met when they were young and became serious at that stage against her brother's wishes, Marvin. Who thought it was a bad idea for his only living relative to marry and move out so soon?
Janet wouldn't change a thing. With enough pushing and convincing, Tony had taken control of Janet's life like a parasite. Cutting her off from family, making her quit her job, and forcing her to be a stay-at-home wife. Janet had enough of the control and power Tony had over her. She was ready to leave and step out until she was blessed with the one bright light in her marriage a baby. She knew she was stuck, but she thought that being blessed with such joy and wonder a child Tony would change. He didn't he got worse as the pregnancy started. No matter how many arguments occurred, Tony never laid a hand on her until Ivy was four, and that's when the abuse started.
BOOM!
The thunder and lightning bounced across Ivy's room's window like a never-ending symphony. It didn't help that Ivy had always slept with her lights off. However, at this moment, nothing could soothe Ivy's spirit, not her stuffed animals or her love of rain. Ivy couldn't tell if she preferred the harsh sound of thunder and lighting or the ferocious ringing voice of her father that echoed throughout her house rivaling the natural sounds of the night, as always Tony had been out drinking and came home late after worrying his wife half to death, At this point, this had been considered a schedule for Ivy which was dad leaves for hours a night, comes back drink, gets mad, and hits mom. It wasn't an everyday occurrence, but to Ivy, it felt like it.
Ivy could hear the shouting and breaking of the dishes and glass it wasn't hard to miss, Ivy got out of bed, disregarding her mother's warning to stay whenever she heard any of what was going on downstairs. Clutching her spider-man plushie tight to her chest, the seven-year-old crept downstairs and peeked around the corner, her eyes widening as she witnessed her father throw a dish at her mother's head Thankfully, it was missing by an inch as he was incompetent to function on any amount on the credit of being wasted. Ivy dropped her plushie and ran over, hitting her father's leg with as much strength her little fists could offer, wanting to stop the torment on her mother.
This just made Tony angrier, and he launched Ivy across the room with a kick, turning his attention back to Janet, who had run over to Ivy to check on her baby. Janet takes Ivy into her arms, shielding her from the terrifying scene. Tony drunkenly stumbles over to Janet with the intent to inflict more damage. Ivy looks up and sees the monster she calls dad, march over to her mother, which strikes fear in her heart.
Her main goal is to stop her dad and make him leave her mom alone forever, her stare intense and her hands raised. She musters up the will to shout out, "Stop, please stop!" To her surprise, Tony stops completely and starts wheezing and coughing. Putting a hand to his chest, he buckles down to his knees, the wheezing and coughing becoming worse as he starts to sweat profusely and vomit. Tony falls to the floor, his breathing slowly going in and out until it stops. Ivy watches as the light in her father's eyes, which are bloodshot red, fade out.
Ivy hides her face in her mother's neck, tears falling down her chubby cheeks as she feels relieved that her father won't be bothering her or her mother anymore. The thunder and lightning slowly begin to soften as if the sky was somehow correlating with the actions of the monster that Ivy just defeated. Janet holds Ivy close as she investigates Tony's corpse. Kicking him in the side gently, she knows her worst nightmare is finally over.
