Octavia

Yesterday's incident replays in my head.  Don't know why but I feel tensed ever since i woke up this morning.

I got up and went running downstairs to kitchen as usual to greet my mum before starting my day.
But to my surprise, she was nowhere to be seen. A sudden wave of panic surged through my body.

I went straight to her room, only to find her sleeping on her bed. I walked up to her and sat at the end of the bed. I looked at her closely......to check her breathing.
I looked at her chest, expecting it to move as she inhale and exhale but i saw no movement.

I froze.
Unable to move. My worst nightmare coming true.
I gathered courage and quickly move the blanket off her body, i grabbed her face, now looking pale and feeling too cold.
That's when i knew...... she's gone.
She's gone.
I'm alone now.
All alone.
How can she leave me alone?
Dr said she'll be okay.
She has to be.
My mother can't be dead.
NO!

Not knowing what to do I called an ambulance service.
The paramedics arrived within 5-7mins , those few minutes felt like an eternity.
We rushed her to the hospital.
They took her away to the emergency room, meanwhile I called our family doctor to inform her.

I need to inform my brother.

Calling my brother was a task itself due to my shaky hands.

"Hello?"
"...."
I couldn't muster up the courage to inform my brother about mum's condition.
"Octy, is everything alright?"
"An-antonio......."
"Octavia, why are you crying, you are scaring me!!"
I didn't realised i was crying. But now i can feel it , tears streaming down my face, I'm unable to breathe.

"Tony- ......mom is in the ICU"
I broke the news to him.
"Octy... I'll be there by the end of the day."
"Tony, please come soon."
"I'm coming baby, just be strong for me. For mum"
I could feel the pain in his voice. He's trying to act all cool but deep inside, he's feeling the same emotions.

I waited patiently for doctors to come and tell me that my mum is fine, she's just in deep sleep.
After an hour and half, a doctor came out. I stood up. By the look on his face i knew it. I didn't need words. I just knew it.

"Are you Octavia Steel? Daughter of Margret Steel?" He asked politely but sadly.

"Yes" i said as soon as I heard my mother's name.

"I'm sorry. She didn't make it. She passed away in her sleep. I'm really sorry for your loss."
With that being said, the doctor gently patted me on the shoulders.

I broke down completely.
Crying and crying and crying on the floor in the middle of hospital.

I cried until i couldn't feel my body anymore. My vision blurred. Unable to breathe. Gasping for air.
Last thing i saw was a nurse approaching me hurriedly as the darkness consumed me.
