As the days went by, Taylor found herself lost in her own world of sadness and regret. She stopped going out with friends, stopped answering phone calls, and stopped leaving her house. She just lay in bed, reliving the memories of her friendship with Alex and wondering what she could have done differently.
One day, her mom came to visit her. Taylor's mom was a kind and caring person, but even she couldn't penetrate the thick fog of grief that had settled over Taylor's heart.
"What's going on, sweetie?" her mom asked, sitting down beside Taylor on the bed.
Taylor shrugged, not wanting to talk about it. But her mom persisted.
"Taylor, you're not yourself anymore. You're not eating, you're not sleeping... You're just existing. What's going on?"
Taylor sighed, feeling a lump form in her throat.
"It's just...Alex," she whispered.
Her mom nodded, taking Taylor's hand in hers.
"I know, baby. I know how much you loved him. But sometimes people grow apart. Sometimes people change. And sometimes people move on."
Taylor looked up at her mom, feeling a mix of emotions: anger, sadness, and desperation.
"But I thought we were more than just friends," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Her mom nodded again.
"I know you did, sweetie. And maybe you were right. Maybe you were more than just friends. But that doesn't change the fact that Alex is gone now. And you can't stay stuck in the past."
Taylor felt a surge of frustration and resentment.
"Easy for you to say," she spat out. "You don't understand."
Her mom looked at her with sad eyes.
"I understand more than you think I do," she said. "But I want you to know that I'm here for you. I'll always be here for you. And I want you to start living again."
Taylor pulled her hand away, feeling guilty for snapping at her mom.
"Sorry," she muttered.
Her mom hugged her tightly.
"It's okay, sweetie. I love you no matter what."
As the days turned into weeks, Taylor slowly started to emerge from her shell of grief. She started going out with friends again, started talking to her mom and other family members, and started to rebuild her life.
It wasn't easy, but she knew she had to move on. She knew she couldn't stay stuck in the past forever.
One day, as she was walking through the park, Taylor saw someone familiar walking towards her. It was Rachel, a friend from school who had been trying to reach out to Taylor since Alex left.
Rachel smiled at Taylor as she approached.
"Hey," she said. "I've been trying to get in touch with you for weeks. How are you doing?"
Taylor shrugged, feeling a pang of guilt for having avoided Rachel all this time.
"I'm...okay," she said. "I guess."
Rachel nodded sympathetically.
"I'm so sorry about Alex," she said. "I know how much you loved him."
Taylor felt a lump form in her throat again.
"Yeah," she whispered. "Me too."
Rachel put a hand on Taylor's shoulder.
"But maybe it's time for us to move on," she said gently. "Maybe it's time for us to start new chapters in our lives."
