Taylor had been crushing on her best friend, Alex, for what felt like an eternity. She had tried to brush off the feelings, telling herself it was just a harmless infatuation, but as the days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months, she realized that her feelings were genuine.

One day, Taylor mustered up the courage to confess her feelings to Alex. She took a deep breath, her heart racing with anticipation, and blurted out the words she had been holding back for so long.

"Alex, I have something important to tell you," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "I've been feeling this way for a long time, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything until now. I think I might be in love with you."

Alex looked taken aback, his expression a mix of surprise and curiosity. For a moment, Taylor's heart sank, wondering if she had misread the situation entirely. But then Alex's face softened, and he took a step closer to her.

"Taylor, I...I don't know what to say," he stammered. "I care about you deeply as a friend, but I never thought of you in that way."

Taylor felt a pang of disappointment, but she tried not to let it get to her. She had known it was a long shot, but she had to take the chance.

But just as they were about to continue the conversation, Alex's phone buzzed. He glanced down at it and his expression changed from confusion to excitement.

"I'm so sorry, Taylor," he said, already backing away from her. "But I have to go. My family's moving abroad and we have to leave in a few hours."

Taylor's world came crashing down around her. She felt like she had been punched in the gut.

"What? Why didn't you tell me?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Alex shrugged. "I didn't want to ruin our friendship by getting your hopes up," he said. "But I didn't expect it would happen this quickly either."

Taylor felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes as she watched Alex turn and walk away from her. She knew that she would never see him again.

The days that followed were dark and gloomy. Taylor struggled to come to terms with the fact that Alex was really gone. She had confessed her feelings only to be left behind. She felt like she had been left at the altar, with no explanation or closure.

As the weeks went by, Taylor began to rebuild herself. She threw herself into her work and hobbies, trying to distract herself from the ache in her heart. But the memory of Alex lingered, a constant reminder of what could have been.

One day, Taylor stumbled upon a social media post from Alex. He was living in a beautiful foreign city, surrounded by new friends and new adventures. Taylor felt a pang of envy mixed with sadness as she scrolled through his photos.

She realized that sometimes life is full of unexpected twists and turns. You can confess your feelings and still end up alone. But sometimes, those same confessions can also lead you to grow and learn more about yourself.

Taylor took a deep breath and closed her eyes, letting the memories of Alex wash over her. She knew that she would always carry a piece of him with her, but she also knew that she was strong enough to move on and find happiness again.

~time skip~

Taylor sat in her car, staring blankly at the road ahead as she drove away from the city. She couldn't believe what had just happened. She and Alex had been best friends for as long as she could remember, and she had thought their bond was unbreakable.

But now, it seemed like their friendship was over.

As she pulled into her driveway, Taylor felt a lump form in her throat. She had never felt such a deep sense of loss before. She got out of the car and walked to the front door, feeling like she was walking through a dream.

She opened the door and let herself in, feeling like she was entering a different world. The silence was oppressive, and the shadows seemed to closing in around her.

Taylor wandered into the living room, feeling like she was searching for something. She didn't know what it was, but she knew she needed to find it.

As she sat down on the couch, she noticed the photos on the wall. Pictures of her and Alex, smiling and laughing together. Memories of good times, of bad times, of everything in between.

Taylor felt a wave of grief wash over her. She had never imagined that their friendship would end like this. She had thought they would grow old together, support each other through thick and thin.

But now, Alex was gone, and Taylor was left to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart.

She got up from the couch and walked over to the window, gazing out at the world outside. It seemed so big and dark and scary. Taylor felt small and insignificant in it.

She thought about all the what-ifs. What if they had talked things through? What if they had tried harder? What if...

But there were no answers. Only regrets.

Taylor felt tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. She bit her lip hard, trying to hold them back. But they came anyway, streaming down her face as she let out a sob.

She didn't know how long she cried for. All she knew was that it felt like an eternity since she had last seen Alex's smile.

As the sun began to set outside, Taylor finally stopped crying. She wiped her eyes with a shaking hand and took a deep breath.

She knew she had to move on. She couldn't stay stuck in this grief forever. But for now, she just sat there, lost in her thoughts, surrounded by the silence of her empty house.
