"You sure this is over?" Sam asked, looking over the completely trashed kitchen, although the rest of the house wasn't exactly clean, either.
They'd finally brought me inside the house, and seeing as I was still alive it clearly was, although I was sure he was just being extra careful when he asked.
Missouri nodded. "I'm sure. Why? Why do you ask?"
He sighed, putting his hands in his pockets. "Never mind. It's nothing, I guess."
Then, the front door opened. "Hello? We're home," Jenny called, making her way into the kitchen. The second it came into view, she froze, looking around. "What happened?"
Sam smiled sheepishly at her. "Hi, sorry. Um, we'll pay for all of this."
His brother flashed him a confused look, which riled up Missouri. "Don't you worry. Dean's gonna clean up this mess," she assured Jenny, but Dean didn't move. "Well, what are you waiting for, boy? Get the mop." He walked off with a sigh, muttering under his breath. "And don't cuss at me!" she called after him, making me have to hide a smile.
A little while later, after Dean, Sam, and I had cleaned the house — I felt bad that he had to do it all by himself, and Sam felt like he had to, then, as well — we walked out of the house, Jenny waving to us as we went. I, for one, was glad we were finally able to put all that behind us, but... somehow, it didn't feel quite finished.
"What's wrong?"
I looked up at Sam, realizing I'd had a weird look on my face. "It's just... I'd thought that finally getting rid of that thing would be, like, relieving or whatever, but... I don't feel like anything's changed. It's like the poltergeist is still there— but, obviously, it can't be."
He looked off into the distance, thinking about something. "Yeah. But— somehow, it feels like we're missing something."
Dean came up behind us, draping an arm over each of our shoulders. "Aw, come on. Lighten up. It's over. We never have to come back to this hell-hole again."
I laughed at that. "You're right. I'm probably just overthinking things." Looking at the two of them, a broad grin slowly grew on my face. "Y'know, while we're here... I mean, I showed you around my hometown, so...."
Sam shook his head, hiding a smile. "What, you want the official tour?"
Dean stepped away from his brother. "Well, of course. It's only fair, right?"
"I suppose this is where I say goodbye," Missouri interjected, making all of us pause.
I nodded at her. "Thank you for all of your help."
She smiled. "Well, of course, child. Now, if any of you need me, you know where to find me."
She got into her car, driving off, and I had the feeling I wouldn't be seeing her for a very long time.
"Well, let's get to the tour." Then, Dean guided me to his car and, much to his brother's surprise, he opened the passenger's side door for me.
Smiling smugly at Sam, I slid in, making him get in the back, which he was clearly not exactly happy about, but he didn't complain. It was odd, but fun, and after a day like that, it was exactly what I needed.
