It is often said that those who go undercover never truly come out of it, and Agent Veronica Liang is no exception.
Following an undercover job gone sour which resulted in the brutal murder of her partner and best friend, SSA Dakota Pierce, Veronica found herself floating in a state of grief-ridden limbo, stuck in the shell of the woman she once was. Her life lost its purpose, the Earth stopped turning, and she finally understood what it meant to have her heart shatter into a million pieces. She was pitied by her coworkers, scrutinized by her family, scarred by her enemies, and somehow felt everything and nothing all at the same time.
Slowly but surely, Veronica's state of nothingness turned into a self-destructive cyclone, and she became a force to be reckoned with. Her career, the one thing she wanted more than anything in her entire life, became the bane of her existence and the fuel for her grief, and the laws she once vowed to uphold quickly slipped through her fingers and became a vague suggestion she couldn't bring herself to follow.
Shunned by those she once considered family, Veronica handed in her badge and her gun and became familiar with those she once spent her days hunting. Fury ran through her veins because she was defeated and angry at the world, and nothing seemed to make the pain that plagued her stop.
But just when all hope seemed lost, Veronica Liang received a knock on her door that would change the entire trajectory of her life.
Much to her surprise, Veronica was recruited by SSA Stephen Walker from the Behavioral Analysis Unit to assist him in his quest to find the FBI's most wanted antagonist, Peter Lewis, better known by his alias Mr. Scratch. It was a lackluster job that required little to no contact with fellow agents and often had Veronica staking out potential sightings in her beat-up 2011 Pacific Blue Pearl Hyundai Sonata, but it gave her a purpose nonetheless.
Though it was short-lived, it was a fresh start, a new beginning. As the Scratch case grew cold and Veronica got reassigned, nothing in her life seemed to play out the way she'd originally planned. She was back in the field and working alone for an entirely new division, her past bearing no weight on her shoulders, and in memory of Pierce, Veronica vowed to take every challenge life threw at her and throw it back ten times harder.
