It had been a rough morning at work, she was looking forward to her lunch break. These days, she enjoyed spending her hour-long lunch breaks with a new friend from work. He was charming, attractive, and knew how to make her laugh when she was having a rough day. A perfect distraction from her harsh home life. She checked the clock. "Seven more minutes, it's going so slow," she grumbled inwardly.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a familiar figure that immediately erased her thoughts. She kept looking at her computer screen, but now with a determination to focus and, "Be cool," as she kept reminding herself. Her body had a mind of its own though as her cheeks and ears became increasingly warm, she knew with her pale skin that there was no way to hide it and all she could hope for was that maybe it looked like she had gotten a sunburn... in February. The closer that familiar figure got to her desk, she didn't want to think about his dark chocolate curls and the way they framed his eyes, bringing out the blue that seemed to demand respect from her regardless that they only became acquainted a month prior. She ignored her rampant thoughts and looked up.
He smiled and tapped on her desk, asking with an inviting tone, "You ready?" She nodded and grabbed her bag and clocked out before following him to his vehicle. As they got into his car they tried to figure out where to go for lunch and as usual he offered to pay. As usual, she tried to fight it. And of course, she did not win and they agreed on a sandwich shop and headed to a pond to relax and eat before heading back to work.
As they opened up their sandwiches, he broke the silence, "You've been pretty quiet, you seemed like you were having a rough time earlier from what I could see. You okay?"
She looked over through the passenger side window, "Yeah, just a frustrating day is all. I'm not that great with people." she sighed but turned to smile teasingly at her work friend. "Well, how's it been for you, Mr. Suave?"
"You know I would gladly come over and help any time, you just say the word. I remember being new to the call center and it can be rough." He gave his coworker a reassuring pat on her shoulder with a warm smile. Those eyes just drew her in even further. She couldn't help but stare, lowering her own blue eyes to his manly features. His strong nose, his beard that accentuated his soft lips, to his strong shoulders. She had to stop herself as she felt her whole body tingle and blush.
She leaned against him, bumping her shoulder to his jokingly. "I mean… maybe if you weren't so far away I would. But your desk is all the way down the aisle." She pouted playfully and looked up at him.
Even sitting down, there was still a good height difference between them and Katherine enjoyed that. She knew he liked it too because he would often tease her for her height and compare his humongous hands to her small ones. She just knew that he was attracted to her but she also enjoyed that neither of them had made a move really because with every passing day it built up the tension. But she couldn't escape his wandering gaze on her as she would purposely walk past his desk just so she could feel his eyes on her. He would sometimes join her at her desk and help her if he was on a break and their hands would sometimes graze or he'd purposely lean over her and breathe down her neck. There were so many subtle things he'd do that would drive her insane. Sometimes she dreaded working with him, knowing that she'd be a distracted mess of sexual frustration.
"That's it. I need to get this out of my system. I'm tired of playing these games." She huffed, with a sudden burst of boldness that only her frustration could provoke.
"It's your fault you know."
"What?" His brow raised, a smirk creeping up on his lips.
"You. I struggle at work because you're… distracting." Well, the cat is out of the bag now.
"Oh really?" He chuckled as if he already knew. He was satisfied with himself to see her so out of her comfort zone and needy. "Why are you telling me this, I don't think I can help you with that," he feigned innocence.
