⎯⎯ ୨ BACK HOME, I THINK ୧ ⎯⎯ZELLAH had told off the boys last night on the car ride home. Kelce teased her, earning laughs from the other boys in the car and a reaction he wanted out of her because she only got madder.
It was the next morning, Zellah was sprawled out on Sarah's bed. Still, no Sarah.
She was upset when she woke up to realize that. Zellah had heard the family gathering around downstairs. So she decided to join them.
Her slippers that matched her silk pajama set clicked on the floor as she headed downstairs.
She turned the corner and saw the family gathering in the kitchen, bacon, and eggs on the stove and plates in their hands.
It made her miss her family. And maybe regret leaving her home. It wasn't permanent. At least she hoped. But she'll get that all sorted when she returns home to get her midsummer dress in a few days.
"Hey Zellah, come join us." Ward waved his hand. Zellah snapped out of her zoned-out state, realizing how weird she looked staring at them.
She strolled over grabbing a plate off the stack that lay on the island. After making her way around, adding eggs, bacon, and fruit to her plate, she sat down at the breakfast table by Wheezie.
"Thank you," Zellah told Ward, even though he most likely didn't make it.
Ward smiled back at her with a nod of his head. He chewed his food as he stood by the island. He seemed like he had something on his mind.
Zellah's eyes glanced over to Rafe who stood by his father. She quickly glanced back at her plate when she noticed he was already staring at her.
"So, Zellah. You excited for midsummer?" Ward asked.
The fork clicked against the plate as Zellah set it down. "Yeah, I guess so," Zellah said honestly.
