Every Friday night, you and Jimin watch a new movie together. Friends since the fifth grade, you decided to attend community college together. The college allowed co-ed dorms, so you roomed together since you were "just friends." While you shared some classes, your schedules mostly diverged—chess club, art, and film for you; basketball, volleyball, and theatre for him. But Fridays were sacred, a special time to ensure you stayed close. The genre didn't matter; it was the company and the shared moments that counted most.
This week, it was your turn to pick the movie, and you chose a new romantic comedy. Jimin had come home, changed into comfortable clothes, and prepared snacks. The movie was about a friend realizing she had deeper feelings for her best friend, a theme that felt oddly resonant this evening.
Throughout the movie, you found yourself sneaking glances at Jimin, noticing the way he laughed, the crinkle of his nose, his athletic build, and how his hair fell endearingly over his forehead. Jimin noticed your glances and used the opportunity to inch closer, his arm brushing lightly against yours, creating a palpable tension.
Halfway through the film, the power suddenly went out. "Dammit, I was really enjoying that," he said with a smile. He grabbed a flashlight and started gathering blankets and pillows, suggesting you build a fort like you used to as kids.
Once the fort was complete, the small, cozy space made the proximity between you feel even more intimate. You both settled inside and started chatting about the movie. "Wasn't that film great for the part we saw?" Jimin remarked.
"Yeah, it seemed like they were just starting to realize their feelings. Too bad the power went out," you replied.
"Don't worry about it. We've got each other to keep us entertained," he said, his tone warm.
You decided to open up. "We should talk more. I've missed you."
"I miss you too, Y/N," he responded softly. After a brief silence, he added, "I remember the first time we met, you know? You had just moved to town and were drawing in your sketchbook during recess."
You smiled at the memory. "And you came over and peeked at my notebook. I was so nervous, but you made me feel welcome."
His hand brushed against yours, lingering this time. "I knew then that we would always be close friends," he said, his gaze locking with yours.
A comfortable silence settled between you, and you found yourself leaning closer to him, the warmth and closeness feeling both familiar and new. As you continued talking, your hands met again, this time intentionally intertwining. The movie was long forgotten, replaced by the intensity of your feelings.
Jimin looked at you deeply and said, "You know, I've always cherished our time together. It's always been my favorite part of the week."
Before he could say more, you spoke up. "Me too, Jimin. More than you know right now."
The distance between you closed further, and in that moment, you both recognized that everything had changed.
You and Jimin started to lean closer to each other. You both sat in silence for a while, the only sound being the distant noise from the dormitory. Jimin's thumb traced gentle patterns on the back of your hand, a simple gesture that sent chills down your spine. You looked at him, meeting his kind stare. There was a vulnerability between the two of you.
"Do you ever think..." Jimin began, choosing his words carefully, his voice barely above a whisper, "that things could be different between us?"
Your breath caught in your throat; that question had occupied your mind for a while now. "Different how?" you asked, already knowing the answer but needing confirmation.
He took a deep breath. "What I mean is, what if we were more than just friends? What if we explored the feelings we've both been avoiding?"
The words hung in the air, heavy with possibilities. You felt a mix of fear and excitement, paralyzed by the lingering need for him. This was the confirmation you needed, allowing you to finally let your feelings out.
"I have definitely thought about us being more than friends," you confessed awkwardly. "More than you know, actually."
A smile appeared on Jimin's face, his eyes lighting up with a mix of relief and joy. He moved in closer, his hand gently cupping your cheek. The outside world faded away, leaving just the two of you in this intimate moment.
Slowly, Jimin leaned in. Your breath hitched as you closed your eyes, the anticipation building. Every nerve in your body was on edge. Then, his lips met yours in a tender kiss. It was gentle at first, exploratory, but quickly deepened and became passionate. When you finally pulled back, both of you were breathless and flustered. You rested your forehead against his, savoring the moment.
"I've been wanting to do that for so long," he confessed, his voice filled with emotion.
"Me too," you replied, smiling.
In that moment, everything had officially changed, but it felt natural. And then, as if on cue, the lights flickered back on, illuminating the fort and your newfound connection.
