Everything is happening much faster than I anticipated. Initially, I thought Ranveer wasn't particularly interested in me, aside from a fleeting moment where I saw a flicker of desire in his eyes—which could easily have been misinterpreted or mean that he is a pervert, in general. However, he surprised me by agreeing to marry me after our first meeting.

Why would a man like him, whom I assumed to be cautious and shrewd, make such a quick decision without a background check or any hesitation? I know my good girl act is impeccable, but still, this seems too sudden.

What are you playing at Ranveer?

It has been three days since I met Ranveer, and I still haven't said yes. Although my family insists they don't want to pressure me into marrying him, it's clear they want me to agree. My mother constantly shares subtle details about Ranveer, emphasizing how "perfect" he is and how my future would be secure with him.

Trust me, Mother, I know better.

Kabir Bhai is back from his business trip. Despite finding nothing incriminating against Ranveer, his suspicions remain as steadfast as mine. He did discover, however, that Ranveer has some connections with people in the Mafia. Kabir Bhai is the only one in my family who is strongly against the idea of me marrying Ranveer Malhotra.

I can't marry a man like Ranveer, especially when I believe he's the reason behind Priya's heartbreak and tears. The thought of him being responsible for my best friend's suffering makes my skin crawl. I still vividly remember Priya's miserable state when she confided in me that her boyfriend, whom she loved so deeply, had been brutally murdered by a man named Ranveer Malhotra. She told me he was so powerful that pressing charges would be futile; nothing would come of it.

Priya's condition deteriorated so much that her parents had to take her out of the country, hoping that better mental health treatment and a change of environment would help her heal. They thought she might forget everything if she moved away. This led to me losing the most important person in my life, and I will never, ever forgive that monster for it.

I need to find evidence to prove that Ranveer is a murderer, but time is slipping away. My family's subtle pressure, masked as concern, makes it clear that I can't stall indefinitely. Kabir Bhai's unwavering suspicions echo my own, yet without solid proof, my objections will fall on deaf ears.

I feel trapped. My family's high hopes, the looming threat of Ranveer's potential dark side, and the memory of Priya's shattered heart all swirl in my mind. I have to act fast but smart, balancing my quest for the truth with the mounting pressure to make a decision. The clock is ticking, and with each passing moment, the stakes grow higher.

"Earth to Annika!" my friend Niyati whispers, breaking my chain of thoughts.

I'm sitting in class, completely unable to concentrate on what the professor is saying. Lately I have been zoning out a lot. I don't know why but feels like I am stuck in a different world altogether.

I met Niyati in university, and we instantly clicked. We've been inseparable since the first day of college. I never thought I could make close friends again after Priya, but Niyati and her twin brother, Samar, changed that. They've become my partners in every wild idea, whether it's drinking on the roof of our university, going on random 3 AM hikes, or exploring abandoned haunted places. We've done it all.

Niyati is a bit hesitant about visiting spooky spots, but Samar and I are undeniably crazy. Not wanting to be left out, Niyati usually ends up joining our messed-up adventures. Together, we make an unbreakable, adventurous trio.
