A/N: Hello, thank you for still reading my cringe story. Also I changed the '...' parts to normal, so it's not italic anymore.

1ST POV:

In our time together with Sanemi it was common that we had many arguments or teased each other aside from training and hunting down demons. I could have expected it when I decided to leave my old home and follow him, not looking back at the past. It was hard to let go of the emotions of regret towards Rumi, but I had to, or else I would have fallen into a pithole I could never escape from. Each step we took, I recalled more and more of the future and tried to get myself ready for fights that demanded the lives of important characters. In the beginning my intention was to survive since my memory was quite hazy, but as it cleared I felt the need to protect others, not just myself.

FLASHBACK

"HEY, YOU..." He cut himself because whatever he called me, I always made a comeback.
"What? You won't even finish? Not fun." We were washing our bloody clothes after fighting a demon, and I couldn't resist splashing him. His irritation showed because of how many irk marks were on his forehead. I was about to laugh until I couldn't breathe anymore, but his face darkened. Instead of laughing, I stared at him, thinking maybe I had finally broken him but in the next moment I found myself on his shoulder.
"SALAMI, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" I kicked my legs and tried to break free from his hold, but he just stepped further in the water until it reached his knees.

"EARTH CALLS SANEMI, HEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAaaAAAAHHhhHH!..." Without hesitation, he threw me into the water. Now I was drenched, and my hair stuck to my face. He quietly giggled at my figure trying to get my wet hair out of my face.

I was always a patient person, considering he was just a cᶜhₕaₐrᵣaₐcᶜtₜeₑrᵣ but when he responded with any physical contact to my teasing, I forgot about it because it felt they were truly alive. An irk mark appeared on my head. When he was about to make his way out of the water I jumped, hugging him with my legs and held him in a choke hold.

"YOU, STOP OR ELSE, I'M GONNA FEED YOU TO DEMONS NEXT!" I knew he was just saying that to make me stop, so I yanked him, and after some more attempts, he finally lost his balance. We fell in the water together while I wore a satisfied smile, unlike Sanemi.

FLASHBACK END

We don't need to explain what happened next. He beat me so hard that I was bruised for a whole week. Although his behavior towards me wasn't as harsh as before, he still beat my ass if I crossed the line, but we relied on each other in fights and fooled around during the day.

2 years passed like that. It was quite monotone, but it was still the best time I had since Iᵢ cᶜaₐmₘeₑ hₕeₑrᵣeₑ.

"Let's go over it again. According to Takana- san 15 people dissapeared in the past 2 weeks. They were all children around the age of 7. One of the villagers said that he saw blood coming down the river near his house, which means we should check around in that area for more clues." I peeked at him, waiting for a reaction, but he just sighed with a smile, like he was pitying me. "HEY, at least let me have my "smart detective" moment"! He rolled his eyes at me and stood up. "We should hurry; we have 2 more hours at most till the sun sets." His weapons rattled as he moved; unlike him, I just carried my old axe with me and many ropes in addition.

"Okay." The location wasn't too far from where we were, but we still hurried to get there. The weather was quite windy, signaling that winter was getting closer day by day. The forest had still not dropped its leaves completely but the fallen ones crunched under our feet. We arrived not long after our departure.

"You're still a slow runner, Salami. Can't believe you were the one saving me back then."
During our time, aside from our routine, I made sure to train to prevent staying behind him. As a result I became much faster and more skilled at handling my axe but still remained weaker in power compared to Sanemi.
"If you want to run so much, then I'll gladly throw you off that cliff." He mocked me, and in response, I grinned.
"Only if you can catch me, Slownemi." I thought he would scoff at me, but he just hit the back of my head. "If you have so much energy to waste, then start searching!" He stepped away, inspecting the area, while I patted my head where he bonked me.
