The day had finally arrived. The day of their first date.
Berry woke up with a flutter of excitement in her stomach. She spent extra time getting ready, picking out her outfit and doing her makeup carefully.
Once she was satisfied with her appearance, Berry waited in her living room, checking the time every few minutes. Her heart felt like it was beating a million miles a minute as she eagerly waited for Tenitsue to arrive.
Finally, the doorbell rang, jolting her from her anxious thoughts. Taking a deep breath, she went to open the door. When she opened the door, she was greeted by the sight of Tenitsue standing on her front porch, holding a small bouquet of pink roses. He smiled nervously at her. "Hey," he said, sounding a bit breathless.
"Hey," she replied, feeling a little breathless herself as she took in the sight of him holding the roses. "You got me flowers?"
Tenitsue chuckled, looking slightly sheepish. "Yeah, I hope that's okay. I figured it was a bit cliché, but I thought you'd like them."Berry grinned, taking the bouquet from him. "It's perfect," she said, bringing the flowers up to her nose to smell them. "And pink roses are my favorite."
Tenitsue smiled, relieved that she liked the gesture. "I was hoping you'd say that," he admitted. "I had no clue what kind of flowers you liked, so I was just hoping for the best."
As Berry set the flowers down in a vase, she glanced over at him. "Well, you lucked out," she teased. "You're already off to a good start."
Tenitsue chuckled, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Good to know I'm not screwing things up too badly so far.""Not so far," she agreed, a teasing note in her voice. "But the day is young. Plenty of time for you to mess it up."
Tenitsue mock gasped, feigning offense. "I'll have you know I'm on my best behaviour today," he said, a playful glint in his eye. "I wouldn't dare mess this up.""We'll see about that," Berry said with a smirk.
"You're going to be amazed at how well-behaved I can be," Tenitsue shot back. He struck a pose as if he was modelling. "Charm, wit, and impeccable manners - I've got it all."As Tenitsue struck his pose, a memory suddenly surfaced in Berry's mind. She couldn't help but giggle. "I remember a certain time in middle school when you got into a food fight during lunch."
Tenitsue visibly deflated, dropping his arms back to his sides. "Oh come on, I was twelve years old," he protested. "That doesn't count.""Sure, it counts," Berry countered with a smirk, enjoying the chance to tease him. "You were a menace, tossing mashed potatoes at the guys at the next lunch table."
Tenitsue groaned, running a hand through his hair. "I knew you'd bring that up eventually," he muttered. "In my defence, they started it." He stopped suddenly, a look of realization crossing his face. "Wait a minute," he said, pointing a finger at her. "You were throwing stuff too. You hit me with a piece of bread."Berry burst out laughing, the memory of it so vivid now. "Oh yeah, I forgot about that," she admitted. "You looked so shocked when it hit you. It was hilarious."
He chuckled despite himself. "Yeah, I remember feeling betrayed," he said. "I assumed you'd be on my side in the food fight." She shrugged, still giggling. "What can I say? I was a team player," she said. "I just played for the other team that particular day."
"And a very traitorous teammate, at that," Tenitsue teased, pretending to look wounded. "I thought we were friends."
She couldn't help but laugh again. "Oh, c'mon, don't be such a baby," she said, playfully swatting his arm. "It was just one piece of bread. You survived."He feigned injury, wincing dramatically when she swatted his arm. "Oh, the pain," he joked.
Berry rolled her eyes, unable to keep from smiling. "I barely touched you," she pointed out.
He chuckled, dropping the act. "Yeah, yeah, I know," he said. "But I do have to ask - is it too soon to suggest ice cream?"
