5 - Snowy day

The rest of the day dragged; I had plenty of study time but did no studying. I had no motivation whatsoever, and every time i put my quill to paper, my mind went blank. At least I had something to do now the school day was over with- detention, again. As i trudged towards Snape's classroom, I felt myself getting drowsy; i'd had a long day of sitting in the Great Hall doing nothing.

"Come in," Snape's husky drone called through the door after I knocked and i let myself in. "Ah, Miss Granger. Just on time." I sent him a small smile and took a seat at a desk on the back row, throwing my bag under the table. "What's with the attitude?" Snape asked with his arms crossed as he approached me. I shrugged my shoulders and rubbed my eyes. "Tired? Too bad, Granger. Your behaviour as of late has been imbecilic-" at this point i'd blocked him out, but he had a point. This first week back at school i've become lazy and i wanted to believe it was because i was stressed, but i knew exactly why. Snape. "- Has it ever crossed your mind that i do not like giving Gryffindor students detentions? Let alone Mud-bloods like you."

My heart sank. Is that really what he thought of me? Just a Mudblood? I couldn't believe he'd just sank so low as to blood-shame me. "I'm sorry, Professor Snape. In my next life I will try my hardest to be Pure like Draco Malfoy," I spat and rolled my eyes. He growled, as though he was going to lash out at me, but he didn't, he just pinched the bridge of his nose and turned on his heel.

After pacing for a few moments, he slammed a piece of parchment in front of me. "Lines, Granger. Don't give my Professors Attitude." I gave him a quick nod before he swiftly walked away to his desk. I unpacked my quill and ink, and began writing - over and over and over and over - until the detention ended.

"Get out, and i don't want to see you until Monday morning," Snape grumbled, ripping up the lines i had just written and throwing them in the bin. At this point, I was too exhausted to acknowledge how pretty he looked in the low light, or how dramatically beautiful the way he walked was; I packed away my things and left without saying a word. I dragged my feet along the corridors towards the Gryffindor Tower, whispered the password and climbed through the passage. Just before i could make it to the dormitory stairs, a familiar voice caught my attention:

"Granger, where were you girly?" Cormac grinned as he slung his arm over my shoulders. I'd actually forgotten i had agreed to go to the tavern with him and his friends tonight, and i really did not want to go. "Sorry, detention." I rolled my eyes and he gasped, "are you becoming a badass Granger?" Letting out a chuckle and shrugged my shoulders, "Maybe i am! Anyway i think i'm gonna stay here tonight, i'm exhausted." Cormac wasn't too happy about my excusal but thankfully didn't ask any further questions.

I hurried to my dorm got straight into bed, falling asleep almost instantly.

Finally, the weekend arrived. The last few days of the school week had been terribly stressful, I hid in the library most periods to do homework and study. I'd barely spoken to Ron and Harry, and I felt awful about it. They were my best friends, and I knew Ron had a thing for me; it killed him to see me with Cormac. I didn't feel anything for Cormac per se, but it was nice to feel appreciated outside of friendship.
As promised, I hadn't shown my face to Professor Snape and I was thankful for it. My confusion for whatever I felt for the spiteful bloke was exhausting me and I had no time for it. Today was Saturday, and Ron, Harry and I were going to Hogsmead - finally some time out of the castle, away from Cormac and Snape.

"Took your time didn't you?" Ron smirked, eyeing my simple outfit; it was nothing special but it was weather appropriate as it had just started heavily snowing that morning. I wore a pair of baggy blue jeans, chunky black boots, a beige turtleneck sweater and a cream winter coat. My face was bare, as usual, and my hair up in a messy bun.
