Lana was pushed into a room and was relieved when one of the women came to tell her that she could bath.

She needed a good soak, but they led her to a small shed with a bucket and a small cloth.

"Soap?"

The lady looked at her and could see that she did not know what that was. Her luck could not spiral any further, even if she wanted to.

The water was freezing and when she finished getting dressed, Lana went out and the lady was waiting for her.

"I'm hungry."

"Come."

She set her down some tea and bread, there was no sugar and the bread was as hard as a rock even though she dipped it in the tea, it was still hard.

After she forced it down, her stomach hurt, and the lady motioned for her to come with her,

"This is work you will be doing."

Lana's heart was in her hands, she had never worked a day in her life but now this lady was showing her the fields, the kitchen, the ironing, fetching water, fruit picking, and making clothes.

She felt overwhelmed and the lady told her that she would be starting tomorrow and looked around frantically. There was no escape.

It seemed as if there were so many eyes on her and gulped, she went with the lady,

"Xerses? Where is he?"

"Drinking with men."

"Where?"

The lady pointed at the building, but she lost her guts,

"Sleep?"

The Lady motioned for her to come and there she was ushered into Xerxes room and she was fuming.

She refused to lay on the bed but sat on the chair close to the furnace, and waited for him to come back.

Lana opened her eyes and it was morning, her body ached from sleeping on the chair.

She got up and Xerses looked at her,

"I see you would rather keep my chair company."

"I request my own quarters."

"Why?" he replied in a cajoling tone.

"This is inappropriate! A lady and a man sharing a room before they wed."

"Fine, I will arrange a room but I can't guarantee protection."

"I heard you tell them to not touch me."

"I did, but what should I do? Some things might not be in my hands, and no one ever dares enter my section."

Lana curled her hands into fists on the side of her, "Fine, could a bed or something be brought in, that I can sleep on?"

"No, my bed or the chair. Even the floor would welcome you."

Her heart beat fast in fear, was she forced to entertain him?

"Don't worry, I've never forced a woman in my bed, they all come to me willingly."

She did not like the way he said it, she nodded.

"You have work to attend to."

"I wanted to talk to you about that."

Xerses turned to her, "I'm listening....."

"I can't work."

Xerses scoffed in humor, "Go, work and now. You have to earn your upkeep my princess."

She gritted her teeth at the way he said it, he was mocking her outright, and she began making her way out.

Yet something stopped her, she felt angry so she went back and stood in front of Xerses, he raised his brow,

"I will not be a slave."
